The seat, owned by my grandad, is from an aeroplane made by Louis Bleriot.
The seat is made out of wicker, to be very strong yet light weight. It needed to be as light as possible because the engine wasn't very powerful.
Bleriot is very important in aviation history because he became the first man to cross the Channel in his own plane, the Bleriot XI. It had a 25 horsepower engine and a 2 blade propellor.
Bleriot's vision, skill and ingenuity contributed to aeronautical science and the growing popularity of aviation as a sport. The basic layout of the standard control panel that he designed in 1908 holds true for today's modern aircraft.
Many members of my family were inspired to fly and work in the aviation field because of Bleriot. I am also interested in the planes, and last year became the world record holder for the youngest wing walker!
It is because of Bleriot and others like him, that we now have planes that can fly us all over the world.
