The clock on the North face of the Abbey has always belonged to the city, and so to the people of Bath. It was originally higher up on the tower, but was moved in 1834 when the tower started to crack. It was lit from behind by gas so that the face was always visible; and wound by Mallory's of Bath. The carillon, which plays tunes four times a day also belongs to the city.
