A bust of a man with a great rags to riches story. It was bought by the owner in a charity shop in Welwyn Garden City.

I believe that this bust was sculpted by my grandfather, Gustavus,(Gus) Burridge. My father,James Murray-Smith, was Butlin's public relations consultant and I believe that he commissioned his father-in-law to do this piece. My memory is that busts like this were made by John Pinches & Co and reproduced from the original. Gus Burridge worked for Pinches for many years. He trained at the Sorbonne, worked in New York and in England produced striking images including King George 5th, the Queen, Winston Churchill and General Hague. He worked from his studio in Brighton and died in the 1970's.
