Visitors came from as far as Norway for the Transformers fan convention which featured a panel of special guests - including artists and voice actors. British toy traders - as well as some from Singapore - sold rare figures and merchandise, taking over 拢30,000 throughout the day.  Transformers fans Transformers memorabilia from the 1980s can fetch big money on the toy market. Along with Star Wars and Star Trek, Transformers is considered to be the most popular science fiction franchise on the internet. Auto Assembly 2008 - the seventh of its kind to be held in Birmingham - also welcomed a stall from Hasbro UK who unveiled a forthcoming range of figures. In an exclusive, video game manufacturers Activision screened footage of the new Transformers video game, coming soon to the Nintendo DS.  A trader Speaking after the event, co-organiser of Auto Assembly 2008 Simon Plumbe said: "It was absolutely fantastic. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we had a blast doing it. "The official attendance record is 423. That's more that any other unlicensed Transformers convention in Europe. We're really very pleased - all the hard work organising it paid off. "We had fans come from every corner of the UK as well as from Germany, Sweden and Norway. The nice thing was that we had people of all ages. It's a great day for serious Transformers fans or for those with just a passing interest.  Fans - Auto Assembly 2008 "Fans bought a lot of Transformers! We estimate that anywhere between 拢30,000 and 拢40,000 was spent throughout the day." Sven and Simon are already planning Auto Assembly 2009 with which they aim to break their own attendance record. Birmingham will once again host the convention.
