The dress takes inspiration from traditional Mexican dance costumes. The top half shows the white shirt and red waistband of the male outfit and also presents a military influence seen in current trends. This is modernised by the use of rusted eyelets rather than buttons down the front. Two eagles sit at the base of the back, drawing the eye downwards into a "Mexican wave" of ruffles showing the feminine side of the costumes. Found on the mexican flag, the eagle represents power, poise and strength. The shaped matt sequins and beads used to create these eagles were inspired by Matthew Williamson's work with Monsoon. He also influenced the lightweight fabric creating movement in the skirt. I also researched language in Mexico and mexican sayings known as dichos interested me. In particular, "A donde fueres, haz lo que vieres" means literally "to where you go do as you see", in other words adapt yourself to local customs.
