The dress draws inspiration from traditional Mexican dance costumes. The top section resembles the white shirt and red waistband of the male costume also presenting military influences seen in current trends. The military feel is updated with the use of rusted eyelets rather than buttons down the front. Two eagles sit at the base of the back, drawing the eye into a "Mexican wave" of ruffles imore than reminiscent of the women's costume. These eagles are created using shaped matt sequins and beads inspired by Matthew Williamson's work with Monsoon. Featuring on the Mexican flag, the eagle represents poise, power and strength. His collections also influenced the use of lightweight material allowing movement in the skirt. I also researched how language is used in Mexico. Mexican proverbs known as dichos (literally meaning "said") interested me. One in particular - "A donde fueres, haz lo que vieres" meaning "to where you go do as you see" in other words adapt to local customs - stood out.
