My design is influenced mainly by the contrast between Mexican lifestyles and the way publicity affects the country! This idea includes how we, as tourists, see Mexico as a place of luxury, ignoring the suffering and fear present in various parts of the country, namely caused by severe violence and drug use, and shows the contrast between reality and what we hear or see! I have incorporated this into my design by creating the feeling of elegance, wealth and happiness using soft fabrics and sleek finishes, with a contrasting section of rough layered fabrics, showing the suffering and hardship! Inspiration also came from the vivid colours that are common in traditional Mexican clothing, for example bright greens (also used to represent the hope for peace) yellows, and earthy colours such as browns, oranges and reds. (red also represents the colour of blood and pays tribute to the many sufferers involved in the war for independence.) As well as this, I noticed William's use of intricate and colourful patterns within his own designs and his use of free flowing fabrics that allow him to create an elegant and individual style! I therefore hope I have created a unique and exciting dress following the theme, Mexico!!!!
