The Screen-Skills TV Craft Bursary

We are delighted to announce that Sam Shetabi is the winner of the 主播大秀 Blast & BAFTA Screen-Skills Award in 2010.

The young Director of Photogrpahy was presented with the inaugural award at this year鈥檚 British Academy Television Craft Awards on Sunday 23 May.

We鈥檝e been working with to give young people the chance to learn the skills to make TV happen!

The bursaries allow eight aspiring Scriptwriters, Directors of Photography, Editors and Composers to get mentoring from the cream of the TV industry and get their hands on a 拢3000 budget to make their new piece of work.

Four out of the eight finalists were nominated for a Screen-Skills award and the winner will be announced at the TV Craft Awards in May 2010. In addition to the placements, they will get a helping hand from a BAFTA-winning expert! Watch clips of their nominated films and read all about their experiences by clicking on their names below.

I won the screenwriting category for my film about a toy goblin. I love Bolivia, Green Wing, Franz Ferdinand and Shakespeare. I hate Physics homework and Tutti Frutti flavour. When I'm older, I'd like to write feature films and TV series for a living and travel around the world.

I started making stop motion animations when I was 6. Whenever I see something good on TV or at the cinema I think to myself, I want to be part of that. My ultimate ambition in the industry is to have my own film studios!

Your entry, (using a video camera or phone) can be of whatever kind of TV you want to make - it could be a quiz show or a band performance or a drama or anything you like. If you don't want to be a DoP or Editor, maybe use a friend's film and make the music, or you could write the script and get your mates to film it and bring it to life. Entries will be judged based on the categories above, and not the overall quality.

The age limit is 16 for this competition. This means you will need to be at least 16 by the closing date to be able to apply. If you are younger keep an eye out for other competitions on our site. Lots that we run are for a wider age group!

The video you create needs to show originality in the category you are entering in - so original music (composer) or original script (scriptwriter) as this is what you will be judged on. But the other elements could have been already made or already thought of - although you will need permission/rights to be able to use anything that you haven't created yourself.

Damien - The video has to be a maximum length of 5 minutes so it can be less than that, but not more.

ThePoirotKid - You will have to fill in separate forms to enter the different categories even if you are using the same video/showreel.

Newagecomedienne - You can get other people to make music for your film as long as they allow you to use it in your film. In the form, there is a question about music copyright so you will need to fill in the relevant details there.

3) As long as your entry complies with the rules, the 主播大秀 does not need copyright credit.

If you use any professional music in your film you will need to give us the details of the artist and track you have used.

The judges will include Andre Newman, a representative of BAFTA and a representative of Blast.

The script should be written for a 5 minute clip or under - if you were to act out the script it shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes. The script can be for any TV genre so it could be a one-off programme or a pilot for a longer series. It is entirely up to you - as long as it is for TV.
