by Natasha, James, William ft Fawaz. University Assignment. Our initial plan was to investigate accounts of paranormal experiences in the style of a 'Hörspiel' documentary, complimented with approaches and techniques also found in radio plays. We obtained a variety of material according to this criterion. These were then identified into two categories; recordings of people describing paranormal experiences and stories attained from the Internet. The aim was to create a piece that would be perceived by the listener as a pre-recorded documentary in radio transmission, with interference disrupting the broadcast. The interference was intended to signify a paranormal interruption, (depending on how it is perceived) entering and destroying the broadcast. Collectively we researched stories on the Internet, resulting in the discovery of the drummer boy narrative. The group brainstormed ideas for the structuring of the project and assigned individual roles for gathering suitable material.

This is very chilling!! A wonderfully unsettling piece with fantastic sound design. Thank you for your excellent info about your inspiration!
How did you structure it and decide what order to have the clips in? Although there are lots of different stories in the piece, you've put it together like a real narrative. Was that your intention?

This is an extraordinary piece - I love the use of sound effects cut in with the spoken word.

Well as a group we discussed the kind of narrative we would like to suggest to the listener. Then we had an array of ghost stories, we chose particularly from a cassette tape, which was given to us by a friend who had relatives that worked at testwood house. We were intrigued by the stories given by people at testwood. So we felt to explore that but also integrate other stories from friends and family to help give the story more angles, and in some way help send each listener into a different direction. It was difficult to do but I guess working as a team it helps get the job done quicker. Try it!!! :)
