U Takeover - radio for young people by young people
If you missed U Takeover, you can find out all about it by following from the of training through to the on 26th September 2009. Look out for the Blast TV programme about it on 26th November too.
Run as a pilot project over 3 months, a group of young people attended weekly training and development which gave them the skills to take over for the day.
The trainees were recruited via local youth agencies in , and who work with young people aged 18-24.
The trainees attended weekly sessions which increased their understanding of , planning and pitching ideas, as well as selecting . The London and groups also kept a .
The schedule the trainees for the day reflected their interests so it included a local focus, some speech based content and specialist music. Interviewees included , Gordon Brown, Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk.
The trainees worked alongside, and co-presented with, the established on-air talent including , and . They also controlled the and visualisation of the day on the , overseen by 1Xtra web production staff. Every trainee agreed that it had been to remember.
