Title: The fall of Troy

by Katherine from Surrey | in writing, poetry

The walls stand high
And the walls stand firm
Unknowingly nigh
Is the end of their term.
The walls are going to crumble.

Brick upon brick
And stone upon stone
The walls are thick
Inlaid with bone.
The walls are going to crumble.

The black clouds advance,
Spreading miles wide
Tipped by a silver lance
They cover countries with a stride.
The walls are going to crumble.

The ships make their landings,
The sand is impressed,
Soldiers' bright standing
Their armour light dressed.
The walls are going to crumble.

Forward and up
They march ever onwards
Towards a city that sups
Never look homewards.
The walls are going to crumble.

The darkness spreads
And the light fails
Flowers left for dead
The city turns pale.
The walls are going to crumble.

Shouts and screams abound
As the soldiers are sighted
Chased by Fear's hounds
The city is plighted.
The walls are crumbling.

Men stumble from the rooms
Women flee to the crown
Death's darkness looms
Streets run red-brown.
The walls are crumbling.

Quiet fall the screams
Silence takes the howling
No pleasant dreams
The monsters are growling.
The walls are falling.

Fire burns towards the skies
Water halts in her flow
The heavens' eye cries
The land struck a blow.
The walls are falling.

Soldiers sheath blades
The city is dead
Life lost in bitter trade
For the sake of heavens tread.
The walls are falling.

The flower is plucked
The soldiers sail home
The city is tucked
'Neath another throne.
The walls are falling.

And they hit the ground.

I had a substitute teacher for an English lesson and it wandered through my head.
