Title: Writing a poem

by Emma | in writing, poetry

Writing a poem
Is such a horrid task,
The teacher sighs, 'Just write a poem,
Is that too much to ask?'
Well, yes it is, thanks very much,
It's very stressing, and
I simply find it hard to be
Creative on demand.
No strike of inspiration,
No bolt out of the blue,
No shouting out, 'Oh wait, I know!'
What am I going to do?
I've been sitting here for ages now,
Staring at my desk.
My head is sore, I wish I could
Just lay it down to rest.
Or, better yet, the sun is out!
My friends, they cannot hide,
They are singing, laughing, all outdoors,
While I am stuck inside.
I cannot write a single word,
My heart is full of sorrow.
What will the teacher have to say
When I hand this up tomorrow?

My English teacher asked our class to write a poem, and when everyone complained about it, he told us to ""just get on with it."" As if it were the easiest thing in the world! So I wrote this poem in retaliation. (Luckily, he saw the funny side!)
