Title: The Lovers' Escape

by Iqra | in writing, poetry

They are escaping from the society
To get to a haven where there is no one but them
Wherein they will never be torn apart
Wherein they will for eternity dwell in each other's heart
The world thinks their love is but an infatuation
That their heart will dart faster than their vision
That their blooming passion in all its might
Will wither sooner than a mere fortnight
But who knows how strong the addiction of love is!
Except those who themselves have been drugged
And so, these two lovers, intoxicated by ardor, leave everything behind
To lead a romantic life one of its kind
But alas! Mother Nature is oft so cruel
That it does not let lovers consolidate
This time when it sees two sweethearts the world thinks are rash
It brutally ends their flight, with a bloody car crash
But death will not subdue their love
And before they breathe one last time
They will, to all, make a display
Of their love that remained impervious to the difficulties hurled their way
The next morning the police discovers two dead bodies
Locked into each other in a tight caress
The police touch them and finds their bodies surprisingly hot
But what it, like the others, realizes not
Is that the warmth generated was from their one final ardent embrace
They are escaping from the society
To get to a haven where there is no one but them
Wherein they will never be torn apart
Wherein they will for eternity dwell in each other's heart
And this time, they will- for now they are in the heavens

I was listening to the title track of Romeo and Juliet, when I decided to write a poem that modified the stroy to match the contemporary times.
