Title: An Unfinished Book, Part 1

by Maddi from Wales | in writing, fiction

When a life comes to an end, people say that it is like a book, closing for the very last time. It has all been read, and now it is time to put the book away and start a new one. Being a strong believer in reincarnation, I find that notion very comforting. Death is something to be welcomed, as soon as the dead person is ready for it.

Sky wasn't ready for it. She was the sweetest, politest girl I knew. She was fourteen years old, and now her book is closed. But so many pages remain empty. Sky's story isn't finished, and I intend to finish it for her. Sky's book ' really only long enough to be called a novella, if that ' isn't done yet. It's not ready to be put back on the shelf, those empty pages need filling up. Whether with memories or with what really happened after her death.

Sky would always tell me to loosen up, because every day could be your last. I'd always tell her not to be so pessimistic, but she'd just laugh and tell me that she was actually being an optimisit, by telling me to live my life to the full. I told her to stop annoying me. She laughed and pushed me, something she always did when I was in 'one of my moods'. I was fed up. I pushed Sky.

I killed my very best friend. I pushed her into the path of a speeding car. I left Sky's pages empty, devoid of words, which is why I now intend to fill and finish the book. This is a ghost story, but not a chilling one. It won't have you cowering behind the sofa. It will most probably have you in floods of tears, because that is the sort of life that Sky led. A girl like Sky dies, and you're sitting on the sofa watching the news with big fat tears welling up. If a girl like me were to die, there'd be no mention of it apart from in the local paper. I wouldn't get a big national newspaper mention like Sky did, nor would my final moments be aired on the local news. Sky's were. Including the shots of me pushing her into the road.

Why did I kill her?

It just shows how one girl copes with the death of her best friend. She believes that she caused the death, but when the ghost of her best friend shows up, trying to convince her otherwise, Sky's life takes a dramatic turn into the realms of blank pages and confusion.
