Title: The Magic Carrot

by Hennah from Scotland | in writing, fiction

'Now I must warn you once 'Now I must warn you once again, the magic powers the carrot contains may be too strong for some' said the magic man.
The boy sat down on the chair beside him, looked thoughtfully at the carrot and finally stood up again and repeated 'I will eat the magic carrot. I am not afraid of its magic.'
Every child looked from the magic man to boy, from the boy to the magic man, until the magic man said 'Children, we have a brave one among us! Ha Ha Ha!'
The Magic Man came towards the boy, handed him the carrot and the boy without a thought ate the carrot. It was as simple as that! The children played the boy played with them, everything was fine. Until that night, when the Jason went to bed a voice came inside his head and it said 'Welcome to the Magical Man World.' Thinking it was just his imagination running wild the boy slept peacefully all night.
Meanwhile at the Magic Man's house there was a letter waiting to be opened from the Magic Society. The Magic Man opened the letter, inside it was written 'Dear Magic Man, ID No. 123456, I would like to inform you that Jason Taylor ID No. 098765 is now a member of the Magic Society, and will be under you supervision. The Magic Society will take no responsibility for any of his actions. Yours Sincerely, Adam Magic' The Magic Man placed the letter on the table beside him, stood up and went straight to bed. But was woken minutes later by his friend Pixie, 'How many times have told you not to even make a hint about eating the carrot to little kids!?' she said loudly. The Magic Man sat up instantly, 'Now, now Pixie I knew you'd make it in no time.' He chuckled 'He was a very determined little boy Pixie, and he thought about it very carefully so I let him and I agree with Adam, Jason is my responsibility.' 'Very well, but you don't know what your letting yourself in for, let me warn you!' said Pixie and with a flick of dust she was away.
Jason was very happy the next morning, until he reached the school gates and suddenly an entire amount of voices came into his head, voices he recognized, of his friends, of the teacher on early morning playground duty. Voices he thought, the magic carrot he thought doubtfully, no way! He walked towards his friend Tom, 'Hi Tom' he said. Another voice popped inside his head saying 'Here goes nothing!' it was Toms voice. 'Jason, I can't come to your house on Friday, sorry mate!' said Tom sadly. 'But...Doesn't matter, there goes the bell better go on in' replied Jason. Later on that day, whilst doing maths Jason thought to himself about the voice that came into his head when he had seen Tom, 'Here goes nothing!' and then he thought about what Tom had told him. What was happening? What was he hearing? Then he remembered 'Now I must warn you once again, the magic powers the carrot contains may be too strong for some.'
'School finishes at 3.00 pm' said the Magic Man to no-one in particular 'Jason gets the bus, and now I'm a bus driver'. The Magic Man appeared in the school bus instantly, which happened to be Jason's school bus. It parked outside the Jason's school, and all the children stepped onto the bus. The Magic Man recognized some from his Magic parties, Jason stepped on the bus and went directly to the seat behind the Magic Man, or bus driver. Gradually the bus held less and less children and Jason was last on the bus.
'The bus driver is the Magic Man' thought Jason 'He's been thinking of telling me something through the whole journey.' 'Magic Man, what do you want to tell me?' said Jason. 'Ho, Ho, Ho! I knew it, you can read minds' replied the Magic Man 'I my dear boy am going to tell you about the Magic Society in which you are now part of.' 'Magic Society, why am I a part of it?' asked Jason. 'Jason, that Magic Carrot just changed your life! You are the bravest little boy I have ever met, no-one has ever wanted to eat the carrot. Ever!' said the Magic Man ignoring Jason's questions, unintentionally of course 'You ate the carrot, you now hold the key to people's thoughts.' 'The key? But what do I have to do now that I'm in the Magic Society? Who can I tell? I...' 'No-one must know about the Magic Society, all you have to do is not break the law, there is only one law in the Magic Society, 'Do Not Make Anyone Sad'' interrupted the Magic Man 'Break it and you will always be unhappy.'
'But...' 'Here's your Stop' interrupted the Magic Man once again.
Jason went home happily, confused but happy. Jason was a very polite young boy and was friends with everyone, he was confident he would never break the rule.
The Magic Man instantly disappeared from the bus into Jason's bedroom. As Jason walked into the room and 'What the hell!?' said Jason shocked. 'Yup! It's me, I'm here to tell you everything. How you have to live, stay and most importantly not to break the rule' replied the Magic Man. 'You don't have to explain, I know I won't break the rule, I don't ever make anyone sad' Jason said loudly. 'It may sound simple but you don't know the whole thing, the consequence, if you break this rule you will always be sad, and when you're sad you'll make everyone you know sad. And making people sad, well no-one likes that do they?' Before the Magic Man vanished he said one thing to Jason 'Remember that I will always be there for you, no matter what. If you are in any trouble of any kind, call the Magic Man and I will appear.' The Magic Man vanished.
As he reached his house, Pixie appeared. 'Well Done!' said Pixie. 'For what?' asked the Magic Man, confused. 'For being such a nice, wonderful and caring person' replied Pixie. 'I've got to go and look after my responsibility. That idiot ate my magic dust yesterday thinking it was sugar!' And the Magic Man was left to wonder.
As Jason got older he began to like having his magic. It helped him in some ways, and hurt him in some. But best of all, he never made anyone sad. And whenever he was stuck he called on his friend 'The Magic Man'.
