Title: A Nazi Soldier

by Becky from Devon | in writing, poetry

Ich Liebe meine Familie
I love my family
I'd do anything for them.
I'd die for them,
And I'd kill for them.

When the war began
To keep my children safe,
Shelter them from harm,
I volunteered for him,
Heil Hitler,
He was God.

A concentration camp,
A prison,
My home for 5 long years
The Jews, the scum,
Caught, rounded up,
Cattle, branded and locked away.
Disgusting rats,
Against the leader,
With gays, blacks, Jehovahs and Retards,
We herded them all,
The weak, the old
Right into those gas chambers
I watched them in there,
Suffocating, gasping, hissing
Begging for their lives
Yet it didn't shock me,
Didn't cause any form of emotion in my body,
I was a rock.
But the smell of those corpses afterwards,
So disgusting,
I felt hideously sick.

We made them work,
The healthy ones,
Mothers, Fathers, Children
Do what we couldn't.
Slaves they were,
Horrible, dirty slaves
We didn't feed them,
Things like that didn't deserve it,
They needed to be punished.
So the food was saved for us,
The workers,
To Keep up our strength.
I would watch them,
The cold hard faces of my Comrades,
My friends,
As they attacked those animals

When the slaves became weak,
We disposed of them,
Gas, Acid, Fire,
Any way possible
It would sometimes make me feel distressed,
Seeing sad, sorrowful faces of children,
Pleading with their eyes,
For me to spare their lives
I soon lost that emotion,
Watching their skin peel,
Eyes burn,
I remembered my own children,
Blonde hair, rosy cheeks,
Expressions of pure love and joy,
Shimmering eyes,
Now scared for their lives,
Because of the evil Jews
I remembered my cause,
My country,
My leader,
I just had to let it pass me by

I looked in the mirror,
September 1945,
My face,
Harder, Older, Wiser,
Crueler than it had been before,
Before this Holocaust

6 million Jews were killed during that war,
But I do not regret killing a single one,
Because I kept my children safe from them

I was doing a Gifted and Talented English course at my local Uni, and I had to do a poem from the point of view of a well known story or historical event, so I chose to do the view of a Nazi soldier. I understand that it may be UNPLEASANT and UPSETTING but I don't mean any of it, I was merely trying to shock people.
