Title: In captivity (duck-billed platypus)

by Sophie from West Yorkshire | in writing, poetry

Day dreaming of beauty through his hard hours,
Understanding people, there is no such thing,
Children point, stop, stare and laugh,
Criticising the beauty within.

The alien waddles over rocky craters,
Matted fur shows under the blistering heat,
'Does no else see my shining personality,
Why does everything have to be so neat?'

Never to be seen on the earth again,
He hides his face in shame,
Pausing and wondering 'Who am I?
Putting up with my new found fame!'
