Title: A day in Austria

by Matt from London | in writing, fiction

Walking up the narrow street the wonders of Austria unfold, as the brightly coloured shops seem to paint themselves in a wash of colour, and my imagination wanders to the little things that decorate the crowded arena of sellers, reaching out to any friendly hand which may promise a sale.
Signs fly around my head, flapping in the wind blown down from the mountains of carpeted green, between seems of blue, woven across the landscape to end in a trickle of shining water right beside the happy town. I let my hand run over the bubbling liquid, like mist, it enfolds my skin and I feel it, a winter's chill in the summer sun.
A huffing cyclist trudges along the cobbled path, finally finding an oasis of ice cream, cakes and lemonade, sweet to the taste. The game of chess is over, The Landscape withdraws and accepts defeat, scattering its pieces around itself like sculptured boulders.
Despite this jovial scene I feel vulnerable, against the towering piles of stonework above me, stacked ever higher to challenge the mountains; they lean forwards, peering down on the unknown things below.
That walk their streets.

I'm excited of the prospect of going to Austria for the summer holidays and I've been reading up on it: A land of breath taking landscapes and colourful towns in the midsts of them. I'm trying to portray Austria in all of its glory.
