Title: Saying goodbye

by Charlie from Surrey | in writing, fiction

Martha was the only one with me when we released the little grey wolf. All those years I'd held a grudge against her, it was as if that dead weight had been lifted off my shoulders that night. It was as if she was the only one that cared.
'He'll be ok,' Martha patted my shoulder as I gripped the little grey wolf in my arms one last time. I didn't want to believe Martha. I didn't want to take her advice, though I knew she was so right.
'Put him down now, Lucy,' Martha whispered. Usually I would have shouted at her for ordering me to do something, but this time I didn't seem to care. I smiled back the tears and placed the little grey wolf onto the green foliage. Martha put her arm round me and the wolf hopped off into his new world of freedom.
'It's alright,' Martha, my step sister I'd hated for so long for no apparent reason other than that her mum was my dad's stupid girlfriend, wrapped her chubby arms round me in a tight hug. I'd looked after the little grey wolf for a whole year and he was my very best friend. I knew he'd have to go back in the wild sooner or later but I'd been putting off a lot of things lately. Like being friends with Martha'.Now things had changed and all in a space of a few seconds I realised that saying goodbye to the little grey wolf had provided me with a new friend, one that I wouldn't ever have to say goodbye to. The little grey wolf will always be my best friend.

My good friend and I found a baby kangaroo, Joey, and looked after it for a few days. It was devastating when the tiny creature died.
