Title: Close To Ö÷²¥´óÐã

by Emma from Lancashire | in writing, fiction

(Main character enters on left side of stage. Shes wearing black jeans, converse, and a black t-shirt)

"Hey. I'm Emma; I'm a thirteen year old living in the UK."

(Emma starts to walk to centre)

"It can be fun to be a young person in the uk.
There's lots to do."

"You can... "

(Emma stops in centre)

"Play sports."

(Three boys enter running. They circle Emma and one throws a basketball over her head. Emma ducks. The boys exit on other side of stage one still dribbling the ball.)

"Go to a party."

(Dance music plays and a crowd of girls and boys enter the stage dancing.)

"Yeah!"

(Emma nods her head and bangs the floor with her foot to the music whilst watching the dancers. Then the music stops, the crowd leave on the opposite side of the stage still dancing.)

"And you can... go out with friends!"

(Two girls enter stage talking. They see Emma and scream happily. They go towards Emma jumping up and down still screaming and hug her.)
(Girl One ruffles Emma's hair up and Girl Two grabs Emma's hand and looks at it, as though checking out her nails. Both still squealing in delight. Emma looks amused.)

(After half a minute the girls leave.)

"But it can be... NOT so fun too."

"I get labelled a lot"

(Two groups of four enter of either side of the stage. Some wearing tracksuits, some wearing blue jeans and a top.)

Group one: "EMO!!!"
Group two: "GOTH!!!"
Group one and two: "MOSHER!!!"

(Emma looks at group one then group two, and back again)

Group one: "FREAK!!!"
Group two: "GRIM REAPER!!!"
Group one and two: "WEIRDO!!!"

(Emma puts her hands on her head and looks frustrated and walks backwards towards the right side of the stage)
(The two groups laugh and then leave)

"Things are happening to kids at younger ages"

(A young pregnant girl enters close to Emma)

"And dangers usually a bit too close to home"

(Two men in hoodies enter. One has a knife in his hand. One has a gun and points it at the young girl.)

Man with gun: "DON'T MOVE!"

(The girl gasps and the man with the knife steps towards her.)

(The Scene freezes)
(Emma runs to other side of stage glancing over her shoulder at the three people)

"So although the UK can be a good place to live..."
(all characters come back on stage and glance at the frozen scene)

"It can be a scary place too."

(All the characters apart from the young girl and the two men look at each other.)

The story is set in a street somewhere in Manchester. The main character Emma is a thirteen year old girl who gets labelled because she wears a lot of black. The story is based on what I see sometimes on my way home from school. People laughing with friends. People playing sports. People dancing to music. But also people being called in the streets, and anti-social behavior.
