Title: Salmon Days

by D.M | in writing, poetry

Salmon Days

They set off when July day is breaking,
Enthusiasm is in the making.
Tired eyes relish for the casting.
A small boat tugs into waiting,
As there is little salmon in the taking.
The Fishermen hope for salutary,
As they sail through a tributary.
The boats are doted in a vacant sea.
Each one searches for a silvery deal,
And each one recognizes another salmon meal.
They do not trawl in restricted waters,
For bailiffs seize, what matters.
Limited quotas mean limited catches.
Boats tug on barren waters.
Back with bare rafters,
Frowned faces coil nets in,
Tie boats by the riverside.
Trudge home to prime for tomorrow's day
As it is prime time for a salmon day.

It is a poem that is deep to all who read it. This poem illustrates images of my grandfather going out to fish for salmon and coming back with no salmon. This poem may seem uncomplicated but it is really very complex. I hope each reader will have their own opinion. I encourage you to read between the lines and find out yourself what this poem means!
