Title: Earthquake

by Rebecca from Lincolnshire | in writing, poetry

As she lay in bed
Thinking about the family at home
She couldn't sleep so decided to phone
Her daughter answered
All wound up and afraid
Before she could find out what was wrong the line went silent
Screaming, crying, breaking, all that could be heard
Dropping the phone, turning on the TV
All there was on it was about an earthquake
Not just any earthquake
But one at where she called home.
Her family gone
Her friends no more
And all she had left to remember
Was her child's last words,
I love you
No point she thought
My life has gone
My home, my loved ones
How can I return knowing that all that is left is the rubble and the bodies of everything and everyone I knew.
