Title: Examinations

by Mariana | in writing, fiction

I looked around and fiddled with my pencil. Twenty rows of ten students. They all looked the same. Heads down and pencils darting frantically. A teacher walked up and down the rows looking over the students shoulders. He would either grunt or move on. This was, I knew, just to pressure the kids, scare the crap out of them. And it worked. whenever he raised his eyebrows and grunted in disgust, the kid would lunge for his rubber and erase everything he'd written and start over.
There was total silence. The teacher came in my direction. It was about time. He leaned forward and huffed and puffed. I could smell what he'd eaten for lunch. Tuna sandwitch. The stench was killing me, but I crossed my arms and raised my eyes to his.
"Why have you not started your exam, Mr Markson?" he said, sendind a new wave of tuna in my face. Tring not to breathe, i smilled.
"Well sir, I'm waiting for some inspiration," I said putting my pencil behind my ear. This agrivated the man so much that he couldnt seem to keep his mouth shut, and tuna wafted over me once again. It was overwhelming! Students were looking our way now.
"Mr Markson, a topic is already suggested to you," he said throught gritted teeth. "If you do not start writting this second i will have to fail you."
As if this threat ment anything to me. The man gripped the corners of my desk and leaned in so close that our noses were only inches from each other. This, of course, made it hard for me to think. He seemed to think he was intemidating me. He walked away, possively chocking at what another student wrote, who pissed himself on the spot.
I took my pencil and flipped it a couple times before setting it to paper. I wrote a page. Two pages. Three pages, then put the pencil down. I was done and had time to spare. I looked around again. The scene hadnt changed. The old teacher was staring at me from the front of the hall. He had a victorious look on his face. I raised my three sheets of paper and waved them in the air. He smilled jubilantly. I took the papers in both hands and slowely ripped them in half. His face was wipped clean of emotion, then anger took over. Everyone had turned towards me at the sound of ripped paper.
I stood on my chair and ripped them again. And again. Then four more students stood on their seats and ripped their work up into pieces. Soon everyone was destroying their work.
And in an orderly maner, exited the building.
