Title: Prologue

by Nadia | in writing, fiction

Lexy flicked through the channels on her old T.V. Technically it wasn't hers, it was Lauren's, her carer. But Lauren wasn't home, so Lexy was free to watch what she wanted. But the problem was that Lexy didn't want to watch anything that was on. Sick of the constant and steady clicking of her thumb on the remote that was driving her insane, Lexy ran her blue nail varnish stained fingers through her auburn hair. She decided to get up and walk over to Lauren's room which wasn't far from the sofa. They lived in a trailer park that felt more like a tiny cardboard box to Lexy. It was so much different from her grandmother's mansion that she could barely remember anymore. Lexy hated being boxed up, the dullness of the trailer and the stinking, thick smell of cigarette smoke and cat urine that was permanently stuck inside her nostrils.

Despite her hate of the smell of cigarette smoke, there wasn't much else to do around the trailer park except smoke and drink alone, and smoke and drink with the other smoking and drinking teens that hung out by the skate ramp. She decided to do it alone. Lauren always called her a sociopath, but witnessing the countless times she had come home drunk with various men, Lexy wouldn't dare go near her neighbours sober, let alone drunk. Lauren would say that that was why her skin was so pale, like ivory, because she never went out into the sun. Lexy liked to think she was a vampire, though she didn't tell Lauren this. She would think it insane for a sixteen year old girl to believe in vampires, let alone think herself one.
