Title: I, Wales

by zain from Wales | in writing, poetry

When the world turns,
I turn too,
When the world protests,
I protest too,
When the world has,
I have more,
Much more than what is written in the gospels of lore,

My jewelled dragon lays in your hearts,
My encrusted land tells a thousand tales,
My loyal people find a home at last,
And I am... I am...?

See my emerald jewelled hills, rolling till the worlds end,
See my enriching foundations, where the land of legends and myths began,
See through my eyes, the way I have preserved all this in time,
See the ivory doves, all soaring, all gliding, all free,
See my people making the true Kingdom of heaven,
The Kingdom of peace, the Kingdom of you and me,

My jewelled dragon lays in your hearts,
My encrusted land tells a thousand tales,
My loyal people find home at last,
And I am... I am...?

Hear my earthy grounds of hills and peaks,
Telling you forgotten tales of lore,
Hear the flowing seams of springs littered all around me,
Telling you of noble battles, out there, in the seas, in the abyss of it all,
Hear my people, all different, but still the same,
Humming a single word, loud and clear - Gwlad, Gwlad,
Listen carefully and you shall hear the proud dragons roar,
echoing over the land,
Soft and clear like trickling water,
But still bold and firm like a true kings' castle,

My jewelled dragon lays in your hearts,
My encrusted land tells a thousand tales,
My loyal people find home at last,
And I am... I am...?

Touch the sage tinted jewels shimmering on my slopes so tall,
Feel the first of snow on my peaks,
Like glistening pearls of the first oyster,
Feel the cloud burst open as the cool rain runs down my valleys, streets and roads,
Touch the emerald city that lays on my hillsides
Touch the link of my long ago culture and now,
Touch the bind between my people and me,

My jewelled dragon will lay in your hearts,
My encrusted land does tells a thousand tales,
My loyal people have found home at last,
And I am... I am...
Our Wales,

When the world turns,
I turn too,
When the world protests I protest too,
When the world has,
I have more,
'Wales' he says proudly, echoing his dragon roar.
