Hello,
Huw's been going a bit Blog mad..so I thought I should get on here (Hi Huw!!)
Its Christmas Party season...so make sure you catch Huw Stephen's show and Rob da Bank's show over the next couple of weeks..we've got loads of unsigned bands playing.
Rob has Zoltan Kodaly School For Girls - a recorder group doing covers of 80's classics :-) on Sunday 17 December 12-2am
And Huw has The Duloks, Lisa Knapp, Evils, and Tall Pony (yay!) on Weds 20 Jan 12-2am.

On another unsigned tip..you might have heard Gideon Conn on Huw's show a couple of weeks ago? If you want to get his gig listings sign up to his mailing well worth seeing him live.

He's also playing:
- Littleborough Cricket Club (nr. Rochdale) on Fri, 29th Dec, doors at 7:30pm
- The Whitworth pub on the corner of Great Western Street and Oxford Road, Rusholme, Manchester at midnight New Years Eve.
- Pangea, which is a massive student event on Jan 27th in a specially constructed marquee next to the Manchester Academys 1,2 and 3

a weekend in the city

I'm getting the ghostface killa album for xmas from my sister. Can't wait:)
I had a busy weekend - after the show last week with the ace Associated Minds crew performing live, I headed to see Kentucky AFC and Y Ffyrc play two storming sets. Y Ffyrc are made up of ex members of CVatatonia, and Mark Roberts the singer has some amazing lyrics and loads of melodies. Friday night got to see Threatmantics, who appear on the ace This Town Ain't Big Enough for the 22 Of Us compilation of Cardiff based bands, with los Campesinos and the Loves amongst others. Threatmatnics are brilliant - they play violin and have o bass player, and they covered Mclusky and White Stripes too - a winner! beth Elfyn was djing a fine selection of records too - ghostbusters being a highlight....
Saturday night was my Radio Cymru show xmas party, then off to see Radio Luxembourg at Clwb Ifor - what a band. they played on Marc Riley's show on 6music recently too and sounded ace - i hope things go well for them in the new year. And to finish off on Satruday night - i got to see the legendary Dr Octagon! Live! In Cardiff! What a treat. He was on top form, his first Welsh date ever, Kutmasta Kurt was there too, and he did Blue Flowers, some Ultramagnetic MC's classics and a few new tunes.
Bangin!

Xmas party season kicks in, head hurts

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 17:41 UK time, Wednesday, 6 December 2006

hello hello

getting ready for Christmas? good stuff.
went to the pop factory welsh musc awards last week in Cardiff, or at least i went to the free bar thing afterwards. a lot of bands won a lot of awards - i think it worked well as an excuse for loads of Welsh music industry folk to get rat-arsed!
also last week i went to the Peski records Christmas party, where Jakokoyak played a great set. Evils from the label is going to be playing the show's Xmas party too on December 20th with Tall Pony and The Duloks - that'll be brilliant!
tonight on the show its the irresistably brilliant Jeremy Smoking Jacket in session. The Bristol band have SJ Esau and Rose Kemp in their members, and make a dark, thumping kind of noise which might make you a little bit scared, Dont worry though, ill be there to hold yer hand. Also tonight, a few tracks from the ace Skipping Beats label, more Scottish electronica, the brill Annuals and more True Adventures.

see youse later
