milismith203.jpgNew Cabinet
Tonight the challenge of change has begun. Gordon Brown has kept in post only one of Tony Blair's cabinet. He's got the first female 主播大秀 Secretary, two brothers and a husband and wife team all attending cabinet. Jeremy has promised to make sure that he goes through the whole cabinet so you feel fully informed. Michael Crick will explain what it all means.

Foreign Secretary
For the 41 year old David Miliband quite a daunting task - Foreign Secretary. Mark Urban assesses the challenge for the youngest foreign minister in 30 years. And we'll speak to a panel of "all the talents" to see what they think this all means.

Flood
As parts of England prepare for another weekend of rain we speak to the boss of the Environment Agency - Baroness Young. Has her agency done enough to stop the flood waters?

Manchester International Festival
Finally today is the start of the Manchester International Festival. Tomorrow Kirsty hosts Newsnight Review from the city. Ahead of that, tonight we interview - the original 24 hour party person.

THE CABINET

In this age of Public Private Partnerships why don鈥檛 we sell off government to a private equity company or even a successful, competent country like Norway? After all, the latter have a much lower prison population for starters.
Once again it seems politicians think they can do ANYTHING. But the past tells us they can鈥檛. If we are into government of 鈥渁ll the talents鈥 why not hire individuals from commerce to form a cabinet? It is easy enough to spot those who know how to do stuff properly.
I am tired of being a pawn on the board game of politics, moved by inept guesswork, and expendable as of small value.

POUNDING FIST

Brown says: 鈥淟et the change begin.鈥
Perhaps now, he sees stealth as a sin?
But New Gordon is strange
For he seems to want change
Whereas once he stole POUNDS from his kin.

Re:the floods.
In this weeks Private Eye it is claimed DEFRA made cuts of 拢15m to Environment Agency flood defenses budget, to pay for the EU imposed fines levied on the government due to the cock up over paying farmers their EU subsidies (when Mags Beckett was in charge).

Can you ask the Environment Agency representative on the programme tonight if it is true their budget has been cut by 拢15 million?

Jeremy should after so many years in politics recognise faces of lead women MP's. He just apologired but clearly did not notice it himself as ge could not remember that picture of Tessa Jowell stood in place of that of Harriet Harman.

Jeremy鈥檚(30/10)split my sides with laughter again with a description of John Denham鈥檚 new post - 鈥 Innovations, University & Skills Minister which sounds rather like a mail order catalogue!鈥 Excellent interview with Hazel Blears, who never fails to entertain me, particularly as Jeremy pointed out that the number of women has halved in the new cabinet, yet Hazel gives a fluffy answer of how she will increase the number of women! Brilliant interview with Dame Shirley Williams, Sir Malcolm Rifkind and still with Hazel and also with Baroness Young on the current flooding in parts of the UK. Very sad to hear about Tony Wilson suffering from cancer 鈥 hope he recovers. :-)

Ah Newsnight Review From Manchester. I'm sure the show be buzzin, off the dial, up for it and give us the full 'Fir coat n' no knickers' insight into the arts as usual. To get in the mood I shall be wearing bling and make sure i'm mad for it.

We criticised George Bush for not visiting New Orleans...sooner! & his administration for their gross mis-handling of the terrible conditions .
Now our Prime Minister seems to be emulating GW .. more concerned with re-arranging the chairs in his new fifedom than making a hurried visit to the Flooded Counties & assuring the displaced thousands that he will at least ensure that adequate money will be in place to help them! and assurrances that more money will be available for Flood defences!

Jeremy has added an extra string to his bow these days, not only is he the mighty inquisiter that some if not most MPs fear, he's got comic timing with good material going on as well, maybe that occasional newsnight review host Hardeep Singh has been giving jeremy some pointers; newsnight, a serious current affairs programme with a sprinkle of humour and satire, all good stuff..
