Good morning,

There's quite a bit around today.

Queen's speech

crown1_203.jpgGordon Brown's blueprint for his next year in government will be outlined later today. The Queen will set out more than twenty bills in her speech to mark the State Opening of Parliament. It will include plans on a range of issues including counter-terrorism, immigration, affordable housing and education.

Mervyn King

The Governor of the Bank of England has said it was the chancellor who made the final decision not to support a move by Lloyds TSB to take over Northern Rock. Mervyn King told Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio's File on 4 that he had told Alistair Darling it was "a matter for government". Mr King said Lloyds TSB had wanted a £30bn loan from the Bank of England at competitive rates as part of the deal. The collapse of the deal meant that Northern Rock had to go to the Bank of England for emergency funding. "I said to the chancellor: 'This is not something which a central bank can do'. Where does this leave the Chancellor?

Sarkozy meets Bush in Washington today. Is it worth examining their changing relationship and any diplomatic repercussions?

Pakistan - what will Benazir Bhutto's next move be?

US election

The 2008 American Presidential election is considered one of the most wide open races in nearly a century. With 17 candidates, no obvious frontrunners, and the country at war, voters there have a great deal to consider. Residents of a small town in Virginia are already grappling with the issues that will drive them to the polls one year from today. Washington correspondent, Matt Frei takes us there, with the first in a series of reports.

We could do the opening of St Pancras station as the playout. Any other thoughts welcome

Any thoughts on these? Guest ideas? Other stories we should do?

Dear Newsnight

Perhaps some thought on how to process lots of information and pick out the key details?

• there is a way of doing this,

Tonight on the show we might also consider whether our country is basically bankrupt?

Why else borrow with a view to a future Chancellor paying back in 50 years time. (Last year’s budget statement and spun as a sign of our economic stability)

We are repeatedly told how prosperous our country is. Who said something about repeating something not true, enough times?

What do we do?

• We firstly need the guts to face up to the truth,

• our way out from this is our talented and highly educated people,

• To do draw upon the genius of our nation our people first need to be set free from the enslavement of the house price speculation that has hemmed us in.

this –can- be done, and the answers lie again with the people of this country rather than those at the top, back to the idea behind this innovation on your website

best wishes
Bob

If there is a queens speech then why not lighten the mood with an alternative queens speech? You could start a tradition. If you have a monarch speaking then you must also have a fool speaking?

So JP has a materialist philosophy? its not what is said on the blog but the size of the number of posts? Sounds a bit Daily Mail. But if office girls and shopworkers are to be the NN target audience then size does matter?

Forget the St Pancras nonsense !

Who cares ?

Show a picture of the Welsh Assembly Government in the Cardiff Bay, with the funky Welsh Millennium Centre in the background, with graphic visuals of the rises in the 'spending' on Health and Education and Local Councils...

This may put across the message that spending zillions on these fine pieces of architecture is something that can be achieved by devolution, putting the cash into the pockets of poor old pensioners struggling to pay their exorbitant, and rising, council tax is something which they cannot..

Hello,
Perhaps we could know exactly what is going on with the "ID Cards" business? I hear so many conflicting stories about whether they are coming in or not and which parties are 'for' or 'against' or have made a U turn.

I'd like to see more on the Citigroup story developing. Yes why not have the St Pancras opening as a playout! I don't see why you shouldn't cover Nic Sarkozy's trip to the US.

As a flagship of journasim on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã and in Britain in general how can you run a piece about the US elections and not even mention the amazing event that is represented by Ron Paul - over $4 million raised in one day, yesterday! This is shabby journasim whether it is by design or on purpose. Really, this is truely depressing!! Bye!!
