Talk about Newsnight

Debates

Nick Clegg and Colin Firth

firth203x100.jpgIt’s been a fairly prized day for Nick Clegg, and not just for winning the Lib Dem leadership contest. He has won himself another title as some of the Newsnight female staff have commented on his striking resemblance to Mr Darcy, aka Colin Firth.

Frequent images of Clegg on the news throughout the day prompted one of the ladies to spark off this debate. Maybe it’s the skin colour, the slightly foppy brown hair or the suit and tie that recalls that Bridget Jones moment.

Do join in the debate and let us know what you think – would you swoon if you saw Nick Clegg walking towards you in a sodden shirt?

Frankly no. But on the day of 'cool britannia' I just happened myself to be wearing a wet T-shirt as I passed the end of Downing Street in 1997 &
noticed the brown Roller waiting for Noel and Patsy. Political curiosity
then prompted me to ask the young lady by the security gates if she
had spotted an oasis ... to which
she sweetly replied: 'I'm waiting for Jennifer Ehle (aka Ms Bennet)'!

And sure enough just after Noel'd
finished chatting Ms Bennet came
striding down the street - and she
climbed into a taxi with her girl friend ...... don't you just miss
Tony Blair ....

the Newsnight sisterhood all a twitter? Are they at that funny age? Do they spend their time sitting around reading cosmopolitan articles on 'sex for the over 40s' and munching bars of Galaxy? :)

If Nick Clegg were really interested in being 'honest', he would deliver on his party's last manifesto promise to support a referendum on the EU Constitution.

Instead of trying to wriggle out of it with ideas of a whole different referendum, while everyone except the government seems to be saying the Reform / Lisbon treaty is essentially the same thing as the original Constitution.

If Clegg and his party don't demonstrate their alleged trustworthiness in the New Year by honouring their clear manifesto promise, then all his talk tonight will be confirmed as just so much hot air.

If the education system is better than it was and more people are going to university who is responsible for the surrounding culture? Is there some additive in the water to dull the sense and the senses. The crazy cameras and silly background noise leave the viewer irritated and uninterested - or is that the intention. We are capable of listening to whole sentences and can understand quite a lot. We do not play tunes or drums when we talk to each other or jump up and down and change colour. We can even watch items that are not about celebrities or body parts. Honestly!

Wet shirt? Please. Jane Austen would have had nothing to do with it. Anyway, speaking as someone who was rescued from a flash flood by a firefighter in all the kit...

Sorry, drifted off for a second...you were saying?

Why would voters in England vote for this guy?
He wants to keep the Barnett formula,
He does not want to give us a say on an English Parliament, He does not want to give a referendum on the E.U.Treaty.
How is he different from Broone and
Cameroone?

Indeed, what a striking resemblance...A big well done to the the Ladies at newsnight!

However, will Nick Clegg win the nation's vote as Mr. Darcy won Bridget Jone's heart?

Did Mr D'Arcy (aka Nick Clegg) really tell Paxo he had never heard of the Pogues Christmas song that was censored by Radio 1?
