ken203behind.jpgStrange, I thought Ken Livingstone had returned to the Labour fold at the last mayoral election in 2004, having been expelled and fought as an independent in 2000.

But the word "Labour" appears nowhere on the , though there is a small red rose - the Labour symbol - tucked away down at the bottom.

My Ö÷²¥´óÐã colleague Rhodri Jones has done a more extensive search, and the only mention of 'Labour' he can find is in Livingstone's biography, where it says he served as a "Labour councillor".

So who's disassociating themselves from whom? Given Labour’s position in the polls is Ken trying a ‘nothing to do with me’ approach or are the current revelations about Ken’s Cronies causing the Labour Party bigwigs to keep their heads down? It will be interesting to see which members of the cabinet are prepared to campaign for him!

As an Independent myself, there is no way I would endorse Ken if he decided to splash his Labour credentials all over his website. His political stance is a winning one and if a labour logo appeared right at the top of his page, thousands of votes would go to another candidate.

I 'though' so too, though I'm not so sure I 'though' correctly.

Ken is a law unto himself that's why!
He does what he wants and is not concerned whether Londoners agree with his hairbrained schemes or not.

Red Ken ain't red anymore, I never thought I would see the day when Mr Livingston would become a yes man for a big salary. He has inflicted misery on Londoners & commuters with high conjestion charges, which are set to rise even higher. A far cry from the fair deal 5p bus tickets.

Clearly someone somewhere has now reasserted hyperlink control over
the Mayor's website as it now has
a link to Labour London and a map
which seems to have knives in it?

The "bluestate" main site is I see promoted by a 'Ken Clark' as well!

For further examples of rebranding and arms length relationships see
this piece about British Council:

who have just hired the firm who did it
for the Archbishop of Caterbury - a
team called 'Rufus Leonard'. Wonder what happened to the other lot ...?

You know ... the firm mentioned in The Sunday Times splash yesterday?!

I was as deceived by Ken in the 1980s as I was by the ideology of multiculturalism. As it turns out, multiculturalism was not about equality but about Ken building his own empire on the ethnic vote.

A natural 'labour' supporter, I find myself longing to see Boris take this one - after all better to have a figurehead for London who was once an immigrant but who now typifies the charm, ease, wit, humour and eccentricity of the (multi-racial) English culture, than an indiginous Brit who sells out his countryfolk.

One of the major draw backs of our flavour of democracy is that people like Mr Livingstone have 5 whole years in which they can choose to ignore voters after coming to power.
Local elections should become compulsory every 2 years. Then elected officials will have little time to climb Mt Olympus and become demi-gods.

All traces of Labour removed by his hand or thiers?

I wish more politicians would shut up about which party they belong to. Tell us what you believe and why - let us vote for a credible set of values & priorities, not for a label. Used to be the voting slips didn't even mention the party. It meant candidates had to express their own ideas, and voters had to take the trouble to listen and think for themselves. Good on you, Ken.
