Incidentally, I'm sad that a gag I made about Boris Johnson's promotion to the Tory front bench was cut from Friday night's programme. I remarked that he'd made the move from Have I Got News For You to I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. I knew the Tories wouldn't complain as it's a joke I nicked from William Hague who first said it about Charles Kennedy!

Boris needs to work out whether he's going to be a media personality or a top-rank politician. He definitely has the brains for politics, but somehow I don't think he'll last in the long term. He tends to be too honest in his opinions to the public. Shame it's a negative thing in modern politics really.
Well, I had the pleasure of being in the audience for the somewhat stilted recording (what was LK on about with all that Tom Thumb stuff?) and can testify that your Boris joke was certainly the funniest comment you made all evening. "Like a glove" indeed...
Out of curiosity, what else did they cut that you are NOT sorry about?
I find I am confused about Boris Johnson. I know in my heart that he can't be as daft as he appears simply because his now previous employment as editor of the Spectator meant he needed to be pretty much on the ball.
Andrew Neal, for that matter, would not have put up with him for that long - though I suspect cotton wool in the ears probably helped.
And the fact that Boris could alienate not an individual but an entire city does not prove stupidity but only an amazing lack of judgement.
But for all that logic, the fact of his inclusion in the shadow cabinet, and as an education minister, somehow leaves me feeling blinky and jittery.
What is it about this probably very nice man that makes me think he is so potentially disasterous?
