    I was still up, after a particularly hectic evening hosting a folk club and then taking a friend home who was surviving his twenty-nineteenth birthday ... but I didn't check my emails till a more civillised hour.

    From the grubby screen and tatty corners I surmise it took a few turns around the Stringfellows dance floor before hailing a cab and commencing its journey around the country.

    Thank goodness Santa doesn't rely on email, eh!

    Alas, devoid of content relating to the programme -- but since the team doesn't even have an editorial meeting till 11am, this is understandable.

    Serious question: if the newsletter relates to the programme, but can only reliably be received after the programme, unless sent so early that it can't give information about the programme... its point is?

    My theory is the old business of 'when the USA wakes up and comes online, all traffic slows down'.

    Somewhere deep in the Ö÷²¥´óÐã is a clunky old server someone's forgotten about, that has never been brought up to the state-of-the-art that it needs to be these days.

    And America (sorry, cousins!) is too much for it.

    Next week, I'll be reversing Global Warming and solving the Middle East crisis.

    (I imagine the basement at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã full of those vacuum tube systems they have for the cash at supermarkets, with pods flying around containing the newsletter. Occasionally one flies off and escapes to Orkney, or Norfolk, or Aberdeen......)
