"The People's Guns"

Mark Devenport | 12:43 UK time, Monday, 12 November 2007

May 1996 Brian Keenan: "Do not be confused about decommissioning. The only thing the Republican movement will accept is the decommissioning of the British state in this country."

September 2005 (Nine years later) General De Chastelain confirms IRA decommissioning is complete.

November 2007 Jackie McDonald "90% of people in the loyalist community don't want decommissioning. They're not the UDA's guns. They're the people's guns."

Nine years later?

He means 90% of the UDA. I'm sure at least 90% of the Protestant/Unionist/British or whatever you call it community don't want him and his terrorist mates. How many seats do loyalists have in the Assembly? And how many of them represent his version of loyalism?

And to use Remembrance Sunday as a platform for this insult was worse than a sick joke, and a kick in the teeth to the memories and families of brave men and women who did make sacrifices to make this country better, rather than the morons who look up to the likes of McDonald who made this country worse.

Why don't they just go away?

Can I have my share of the people's guns please? In particular, I'd like to claim a minigun, if the UDA have one. I've always wanted to re-enact that Arnold Schwarzenegger stunt at the Cyberdine lab in Terminator 2.

I presume we have a gun each, or is it on some sort of gun-share? Either way they can get rid of mine.

Clearly "the decommissioning of the British state in this country" is a euphemism for "Sinn Féin sharing power with the DUP after having agreed to the principle of consent and backed a Northern Ireland-based police service in addition to having overseen all IRA weapons being put beyond use."
