What is behind the Arsenal board's implacable hostility to ?

Peter Hill-Wood, the Arsenal chairman, has said he does not want that sort of person running his beloved Arsenal.

But is there more to this? I hear there could be.

I am told Arsenal's sponsor Emirates is not too keen on a change in the boardroom and all the upheaval this would mean.

Emirates will be spending and while every time Arsenal play at home the name Emirates is up in lights, this has hardly been been the case on the pitch.

By the Gunners' high standards, this has not been a great season - no trophies and the only thing to look forward to is that they are in the Champions League for next season.

Set against that, Emirates - I am told by very good sources - would rather not go through hostile, contested take-overs and all the impact this can have on the club and the team.

And if that is the attitude they have taken, who can blame them?

The history of football shows that while a good manager is essential for success, boardroom stability is also crucial.
