In the small hours of a Monday morning from 2-3am you can hear a selection of my favourite new tunes compiled into an hour-long mixtape of nonstop music. All the audio is sourced from the 主播大秀 Introducing Uploader - some of it recommended by friends and colleagues and some discovered via Twitter and my own blog.

YOUR NEW ANTIQUE - Open Your Eyes [00:42]

Like many a band before them, the Huddersfield Alt-Indie quartet Your New Antique formed over a few pints in the pub. Since then they have attracted the attention of the London-based production team of The Anial Farm and released four singles, including Chemistry which we included on this Mixtape last year. Open Your Eyes is set for release on March 11th.

JOSH HEALEY - When The Wind Blows [04:24]

The first thing that strikes you about a Josh Healey record is the purity of his singing voice - which he modestly attributes to "listening to too much Simon & Garfunkel as a kid". That childhood was spent on Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, although he's currently based near Warrington in Cheshire. Josh (see photo, above) is currently gearing up for the release of his debut EP LifeBoats And Relationaships which was produced by Fred Kindt at Blueprint Studios in Manchester. It'll be available in digital and physical formats from March 18th and you can catch him live at The Boulevard in Wigan a week on Friday (March 8th).

BEN SEE - Moment.Sound.Blur. [07:35]

We get sent something like 150 tracks every week and can fit fewer than twenty into each Introducing Mixtape. So every one of these tracks is exceptional enough to jump out of the pile for one reason or another. Even so, Moment.Sound.Blur. by Ben See towers head and shoulders everything else in the show for sheer freshness and downright originality. Of course many artists have been singing acapella with loopstations for years, but the results are often more notable for their sonic texture than for the quality of the compositions. But then Ben has a background in choral music, with influences ranging from Radiohead through to Benjamin Britten - and is definitely a man to watch. Not for the possibility of future fame - though that may come. But in my opinion his upcoming debut album could well be one of the most daring and musically adventurous records you'll hear all year.

KITE AND THE CRANE - London [11:16]

Edinburgh based indie-folk trio Kite And The Crane are Emilia Hanna, Hannah Kitchen and Niki Dunne. They have been performing for less than a year and have already had to shake things up a bit: Emilia has just had a baby, so maternity cover comes in the form of Chris Lindsay (who sings on London) and Ally Aiken. Their next gig is at the Old Chain Pier in the Scottish capital on March 10th, followed by an appearance at Teviot on March 22nd. On the basis of this song, we keenly await their EP, which will be released in May.

SCREAMING MALDINI - The Awakening [15:43]

Sheffield's Screaming Maldini describe themselves as "genre-straddling, multi-instrumental six piece" and "all the pops, rolled into one". They've just completed a twelve-date UK tour to promote their newly released - and selftitled - debut album, and will be capping it with a hometown show this Saturday (March 2nd )at The Harley in Sheffield. And don't imagine things will end there. "Never content to stand still," they proclaim "the band can be found doing anything from performing in concert with a 40-piece orchestra, to unleashing a 30-strong singing flash-mob on an unsuspecting clothes shop in Sheffield!" And apparently all I could say was: "Wow!"

LEWDJAW X DANERO - Compleat [18:41]

Linda Serck from 主播大秀 Introducing In Berkshire recommended this track on my Saturday show this weekend. Both of us enjoyed a good on-air moan about the lack any information supplied by Lewdjaw X Danero, but since then, I'm happy to report, the "Description" section of their Facebook page has been updated. "GOOD LOOKING EUROPEAN RAPPER/PRODUCER DUO (20 SOMETHING) SEEKING AUDIENCE FOR GOOD TIMES AND POTENTIALLY MORE, MUST BE INTO HIP HOP, BEATS, & LAURA PALMER". Brilliant. The track's damn fine, too - but you don't need me to tell you something you can so plainly hear for yourselves.

MINA TINDLE - Lovely Day [21:41]

Last September on the mixtape we featured a track called Bells from Mina Tindle's album Taranta on Believe Recordings. As a French singer with Spanish roots she's described on her website as "the new voice of the modern French pop dreamers". She didn鈥檛 start making music until her early twenties when she moved to New York. She completed the circle by returning to her native Paris to complete her debut album, which the 405 described as "an irresistible display of musical excitement which demands repeat listens". Lovely Day is Mina's new single and accompanied by reinterpretations from friends and fellow Frenchman Francois and the Atlas Mountains (Henry), Breton (Too Loud), Amateur Best (Lovely Day) and Typesun (Lovely Day), who all offer their own take on tracks from the album.

BISCUITHEAD & THE BISCUIT BADGERS - Dinosaurs [25:09]

Sometimes I love bands because their music is so exquisitely crafted, and sometimes simply because it's irresitibly daft. In the case of the Moustache-Powered Tuba Cabaret of Biscuithead And The Biscuit Badgers it's both, and the band's lead vocalist and ukulele exponent Dean Murray was a guest on my show a couple of years ago. This new track comes with a superbly made stopmotion video by Kerrie McKinnon and the lyrics say it all: "How many children here have dreamed, in a bored hour, of riding through the playground on a dip-lo-do-cus?" A worthy followup to their highly recommended second album The Greatest Show On Toast.

THIRD PARTY - Room With A View [29:05]

This lovely tight and powerful Cardiff quartet formed in late 2011 around frontman Gruff Russell-Jones, who's been writing and recording music locally in various outfits for over ten years. This single was released in July last year via the Third Party Bandcamp page. The band are currently working on a double-A single as a followup with an album to follow - and play a hometown gig at The Moon Club on March 29th.

HYSTERICAL INJURY - Icebreak [32:20]

Longstanding favourites with Ruth Barnes and - let鈥檚 face it - all right-thinking fans of aggressive in-your-face lo-fi Avon-based attack-pop, Hysterical Injury (the definite article appears to be optional) consist of siblings Annie and Tom Gardiner. They grew up in Llandeilo, are now based in Bristol and Bath, and released their debut album DEAD WOLF SITUATION on Crystal Fuzz records in February 2012 thanks to part-funding by the Strummerville Foundation for New Music. They make a huge and splendid noise for just two people and you can buy the whole album via thehystericalinjury.co.uk 鈥� go on, you know you want to. They play Kollaps in Bristol on March 16th and Annie can also occasionally be found making music under her electronic side project name of Excellent Birds.

ALTERNATIVE DUBSTEP ORCHESTRA - Power [35:50]

The Alternative Dubstep Orchestra (ADO) was set up in November 2010 as a collective of Birmingham based musicians and DJs aiming to bring a new live element to the dubstep world. They became the experimental resident collective of The Honeymoon Club, a monthly event at Birmingham鈥檚 Hare and Hounds. The core collective has features two drumkits, percussion, brass, strings and - of course - turntables. ADO is, they say, "a project, a philosophy and an evolving musical experiment. Expect interactive, improvisational, reworked and composed pieces, always with an orchestral twist." This single is their cover of a track by dubstep artist Skism.

THE HUBBARDS 鈥� Dog Bite [39:52]

Hull quartet The Hubbards consist of Reuben Driver, Alex Green, Ronan Burns and Joe Orlowski - none of whose surnames, you may notice, is Hubbard. The beautifully photographed video for this single is currently in pride of place on their website, while the audio will be released on March 25th as a free download from their website. They have upcoming shows in Barnsley (March 15th) Leeds (March 16th) and a hometown show at Tofts on March 29th. Other than that they tell us nothing about themselves whatsoever.

THE WIND-UP BIRDS - 2 Ambulance Day [43:27]

Mat Forrest, Oli Jefferson, Paul Ackroyd and Ben Dawson describe their group The Wind-Up Birds as "a belligerent independent band of Leeds-based noisy pop grumpsters". Despite existing "for aeons" - during which they released a string of EPs and singles - they only got around to putting out their first official full length debut album The Land last May. They followed it up with a single, The Mild Awards in November, and the second of two 11-track archive compilations - Acting Thick For Money (Volume 2) - last month. All their releases, together with links to their official website, Facebook and Twitter, are available via their comprehensive and well-stocked Bandcamp page.

RUTH STAVRIC - Without You [47:47]

Oxford-based mother, lover, fighter, film-maker and musician Ruth Stavric makes taut, harrowing music to raise awarness and funds for cancer immunotherapy research. Chances are that all of us will be affected by cancer at some point in our lives, and we don't need to pry into Ruth's own circumstances to hear that this work has been informed some terrible adversity. If you her music as inspiring as I do, you may like to join me in making a donation to Ruth's charity of choice, the Cancer Immunotherapy Fund. The link is on her Soundcloud page above, along with the poignant words "GORDiN BONES We miss you".听

THE PAPER SHADES - Light of the Day [51:29]

Sarah Dollar and Jon Rixon are, they tell us, a male/female duo from the South - specifically between Basingstoke & Newbury. They've known each other for ten years but only formed the band three years ago once they had started writing their own material. Light of the Day is track two on the second Paper Shades EP Where You Lay, and their recent single The Storn is available as a free download via their website. Their next live show is in London at The Bookclub in Islington a week on Sunday (March 10th).

THE MOURNING SUNS - Metal Horses [56:01]

I fell in love with this from bar one - with its arresting vocal, bizarre lyric and glistening ethereal production, it was quite unlike any other music in this week's inbox. The voice belongs to Rosie Wilkes, the band themselves are from Birmingham, and this track comes from their debut EP Heavy Handed, currently available from their Bandcamp. The latest Mourning Suns single A Cloud was included by Roundhouse Records on their "30/30: Best of 2012" compilation album, for which Roundhouse teamed the group up with producer Dimitri Tikovoi (of Goldfrapp, Placebo, Horrors and John Cale fame). Catch them playing hometown shows at The Yardbird on March 20th and The Flapper on May 4th.

GIANT FANG 鈥� Aqualung [start: 0:12]

Giant Fang is 26 year old Glasgow musician and producer Douglas Wilson. Having toured the world as a tour manager and session musician for the likes of The Antlers, Frightened Rabbit & Glasvegas,听this听project听is a collaboration with friend and Sky Larkin drummer Nestor Matthews. Wilson also previously played in Glasgow band Dance Lazarus Dance.

BALLERINA BLACK - Birth Of A Felony [start: 5:01]

Not much factual information in this band's biog, but for what it's worth here it is in full: "Gloom Pop is one way to describe Ballerina Black鈥檚 sound, grave-wave is another. Regardless of sonic hemispheres, the paradoxes that exist in this quartet are startling. Formed in 2007, an extensive tour of California being first on the agenda opening up for the likes of Interpol & Silversun Pickups whilst their debut album Cattle Arithmetic was released to critical acclaim in 2010. "

IAN EVANS - Too Tasty For You, Lager Boy? [start: 9:00]

"I write and record songs constantly and try to get everything that interests me into my music" says Ian Evans. "It takes a lot of research, which I love. Some of the songs I've made are an interactive song to play whilst walking around the V & A Museum, a history of streaking and a discussion on when it's ok or not to have sex with someone. My new E.P. was inspired by the classic 主播大秀 dramas Ghostwatch, the Stone Tape, Dr Who and the Tripods, all of which scared me!"

BIRD - Ophelia [start: 13:28]

Three piece Liverpool band Bird is the creation of Adele Emmas (singer, songwriter) Sian Williams (guitar, harmonies) and Alexis Samata (drums) They aim to create dark, haunting, atmospheric music to entice listeners into what they describe as "their magical, other worldly universe". They released their first EP 'Shadows' on Jack To Phono records in August 2012. They've been supported by Rob Da Bank at Radio 1, as well as Maconie, Radcliffe and myself at 6 Musicand Dave Monks at 主播大秀 Merseyside. This is the lead track of their newly-released EP Ophelia and you'll find more live dates via their Facebook page including Electric Circus in Edinburgh tonight (Monday Feb 18th).

WILLIE DICK - I Will Be Your Juliet [start: 17:50]

I first encountered psychotroubadour Willie Dick live at Nice'N'Sleazy's in Glasgow a year ago and encouraged him to send his music to 主播大秀 Introducing. He describes himself as "a vagabond creating musical and visual mayhem with contact mics, meat cleavers and a butchers block. "Weaving stories of pain and mistrust (this is) the final war cry of a man tittering on the edge of sanity. My youth was a glutenous diet of Cod Liver Oil and the Gospel According to Luke. Sticky oil seeping out of my skin, angelic words thrashed into my brain. It was inevitable. Like a ten foot tattoo miniaturised on the inside of a lip." It's fair to say that there is no comparable songwriter operating in the UK today!

SONS BETWEEN GUNS - The Other Side [start: 20:49]

Born, they tell us, in a beach hut, Sons Between Guns are Paul and Tom. Under the moniker Paul T, the former used to contribute material to LTJ Bukem鈥檚 label, while the latter recorded original music for Theatre productions in London. In December 2010 they recorded their first song, 'Calling on the Rain'. Since then they have produced a catalogue of music which will form a series of EP releases in 2011 and 2012. Career highlights include a headline slot at the world-famous Dublin Castle and an appearance at a High Flying Birds after show party. This is the first track the band ever recorded and the second we鈥檝e featured from the label鈥檚 debut release, EP Red 1. A followup EP of remixes came out last summer.

GREAT PLAIN SUNDANCE - Stay Up All Night [start: 24:41]

Originally an acoustic trio, Great Plain Sundance expanded in size last September. Students at the University of Liverpool, they are currently in the process of recording their debut EP, which they hope to release in May. More immediately, they are supporting Michael Cassidy听at Mello Mello, entering a competition to play at Sound City and then appearing at Liverpool's Zanzibar Club on February 28th. Following that, they play Fiesta Bombarda on the March 15th.

SKIMMED - Ronnie [start: 28:20]

Based between Berkshire and Malta, Skimmed aim for a strong pop sensibility in their music while tinging it with "a more alternative and cinematic noir feel". There are ingredients that draw on the poppy 60s girl groups and surf bands combined with the darker elements of the New Wave bands of the 80s, all tied together with a tinge of dream pop. The intend to launch their debut full length album on the 23rd of February, which will be available to buy online.

TALK IN COLOUR - Bones [start: 32:15]

Chris Bangs - Cello, electronics, backing vox, Dave Oliver - Drums, Kat Arney - Harp, Mary Erskine - Vocals and keyboards, Nick Siddall - Guitar By turns dark then uplifting, slipping effortlessly between pure instrumentals and vocal driven tracks, London based five piece Talk In Colour defy easy categorisation. It's no surprise that the band cite influences as far ranging as Lamb, Battles, The XX and Berlin-era Bowie, with a nod to Afrobeat and Alice Coltrane along the way. Together, the band blends electronic and organic instrumentation into a blistering aesthetic.

RANDOLPH SWAIN & THE RED LIGHTS - The Moonlight Burnt My Skin [start: 37:17]

Randolph Swain has recorded his first EP entitled 'New Planet' . It is autobiographical account of the events leading up to his departure from Earth. In this first edition he discovers the existence of the 'New Planet' by accident whilst spying on Mrs Jones from No 34. Certain events seem to be pointing to some serious problems on Earth and the only option is to leave for 'Eris' as soon as possible. Did all this take place or did Randolph just bump his head ? I think we should be told.

AMY SPENCER - Reverie [start: 40:22]

As she matures as a songwriter, Amy says her music is getting 'heavier and more country-tinged', which compliments the听darkening of her subject matter. Her move to London in 2011 to study music at Goldsmiths College proved to be the catalyst for this, although chance has it that her four band mates are also from Amy's home town in Gloucestershire. This year will see them release an EP supported by a series of shows, including gigs the Lost Horizons Folk Club, Leytonstone, on February 15th, and The Wreck in听Camberwell on the听February 28th.

CENTREFOLDS - In Your Blood [start: 45:17]

Centrefolds aim to produce the very antithesis of what people think of as the current 鈥楤ristol鈥� sound. Their music is, they tell us, "unapologetic, artfully crafted, hook-laden indie-pop with pinches of electronica, prog, krautrock and downright eccentricity all bubbling away in the musical melting pot鈥�. 'In Your Blood' is taken from 'Release The Hounds' EP, which is听available as a free download from . They are currently working on their follow-up EP, and have live shows lined up in London at The 100 Club on March 29th and Water Rats on April 27th

VINCENT BURKE - Goodbye [start: 48:02]

As part of a rigorous 5-Year Plan to increase my agricultural yield, Vincent听has been听releasing a song a month via his blog. R-Lo records recently heard some of these on Soundcloud, and he is now working with them with a view to releasing an EP this Summer. He has a regular Monday slot at the White Lion is Streatham, and is usually playing at the Tulse Hill Tavern on Sundays.

CAT SIZED PANDA - Telekinetic Peripherals [start: 50:18]

John Sorensen-Jones started manipulating sounds and making ambient electronic music on a PC in Hull way back in 1998. "After taking a 5 year break from producing music", he says "I decided to make a return to it." The results include this track Telekinetic Peripherals.

DOGSTAND - The Assistant [start: 56:16]

Dogstand is the remnants of a few, now sadly defunct bands - Zen Terrorists and BUM! to name but two, but most of all is a happy musical collective of close friends and family who live in the South London area. Collaborators in matrimony, Graeme and Carli had been writing and performing acoustically for some time before luring Hard Rawk guru Paul and soloist vintage keyboard freak Leo VK to join them in a new project in the mid noughties. Though fundamentally purveyors of progressive pop, Dogstand cites influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Edith Piaf, Daft Punk to Ray Davies, Pulp to The Mars Volta, Cardiacs to Bellowhead.

SLAVES - Nervous Energy [start 0:13]

Slaves describe themselves as a "2 piece Garage Punk duo from Kent, UK" and consist of Isaac Holman on vocals & percussion, and Laurie Vincent on guitar & vocals. This track is available as a free download from . You can endless descriptions of their music by other people on their Facebook page, though the glowing paragraph that's (ahem) credited to me was actually written by Simon Jones, reviewing them at

FELDSPAR - The Flat and Paper Sky [start 02:23]

Are band biographies going out of fashion or something. All I can tell you about this lot is that they're a London-based five piece who've been aredently supported by The 405, For Folk's sake and 主播大秀 Radio 2 - perhaps unsurprising given the outstanding quality of this track. What I can't offer you is any kind of context in which to listen to this music. Their blog tells us that they've released two Eps called The Flat and Paper Sky and The Flat and Paper Sky Vol. II. However they don't offer a tracklisting for either of them - so which of them contains the actual song called The Flat and Paper Sky ? Your guess is as good as mine.

FELIX HAGAN &THE FAMILY feat LOUIS BARABBAS - My Little Lusitania [start 04:14]

Felix Hagan & The Family are, we're told, "a seven-piece beast made of makeup, hairspray, lovely ladies and staggering musicianship - who play rock and roll infused with musical theatre." However the eponymous Felix writes, plays and produces on their records in his studio space in the attic of Ray Davies' Konk Studios in North London. They recently signed to Manchester label Debt Records which explains why label boss Louis Barabbas is making a guest appearance on this splendid single.

OMEGA66 - Whirlwind [start 08:37]

Omega66 is the brainchild of Krik, formerly of Dark Chunk, making music in his small Cardiff studio on guitar, vocals and something called a Stank Machine - which gave its name to the opening track on their last album. His credited collaborators include brilliant local vocalist Sally Thomas and percussionmeisters Adrian Wiggins and Dan Pressley. We played the title track of their second LP Nools And High Horses back in October 2011 and a followup album is expected this year. Whirlwind, newly released on Bandcamp at the end of January, bodes well for the upcoming longplayer.

FLASH BANG BAND - DananananaFreud [start 11:56]

Andy Halliday, Rob Carmier and Rodney Roodt (pictured above) describe themselves as three "hearty philosophical gutter rats from Brighton who met on the internet and then got together to make a band: fun time dudes playing for their lives songs about the skewed reality we find ourselves in. And stuff like that." We assume their singularly unpronouncable choice of track name is in homage to the late lamented Glasgow fight-pop sextet Dananananaykroyd. They list their interests as "Vibes. Chaos. Serendipity. Wanderlust. Tempting Fate. The 90s (who knew?), Making New Mistakes. There is more to life than music" and "Doing things the hard way so you don't have to." This, my friends, is a band destined to go far. Listen and marvel.

CROOKED HANDS 鈥� Under [start 14:58]

Beginning as a handful of acoustic tracks by singer-songwriter Christopher Brown, Newcastle's Crooked Hands has expanded and finally evolved into a five-piece band with the addition of gutarist Tom Booth. Their stated aim is to fuse dark acoustic guitars and hymnal reverb-soaked atmospherics with sprawling, heavy rhythms. Recommended to us by the excellent Nicky Roberts at 主播大秀 Introducing in Newcastle, this is their debut single, available from and the play a hometown show opening for Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun at The Cluny this Friday February 15th.

QTIER - Still [start 19:24]

The trio of Adam Pleass, Howard Whiddett and James Gordon formed recently in London and set up a studio "by the coast" to make this record. They play East London's Neu Gallery this Wednesday February 13th and they've been tipped for greatness by Fly Magazine who recently made this their Track of The Day. That's about it for the facts. The rest of their press release contains mostly adjectives. "Beautiful", "captivating", "breathtaking", "tender", "hushed", "lush", "swooning", "forward-thinking", "mesmerising", "serious", "extraordinary", "electric", "special" and "excited" since you ask...

MON MON - Fullers Slade [start 23:20]

Back in 1967 the Doors and Velvet Underground can scarcely have imagined they were founding an entire new global tradition of louche, leering, sneering, streetwise, tough-ass rock raconteurs. I was 17 at the time and over the ensuing four and a half decades I've lost count of the loud, lowlife, leatherjacketed poseurs we've seen strutting and declaiming from club stages across the western world in their wake. Most of them managed to imitate the form without ever coming close to the true spirit of those early US pioneers. Dead Fingers Talk managed it, as did Echo and The Bunnymen, and maybe even the early BRMC. But here in the 21st century, Leeds trio MonMon have no need of sunglasses or motorcycle jackets to stake their claim as true heirs of the genre - renewing and reinventing that classic sarcastic swagger with a gritty Northern spin that's all their own. Not to mention a band so tight you couldn't fit a Rizla paper between the beats. We all know there's not much justice in the world but - if there was - then 2013 would be MonMon's year.

EMPTY POOLS - Small Talk [start 26:18]

Empty Pools were first recommended to us by Sam and Rich from 主播大秀 Introducing in Bristol.听听听 They formed in the Summer of 2011 with a mission to "combine elements of noise rock with teen dream melodies, late 鈥�70s CBGB鈥檚 angularity and the jazzy world-pop sophistication of the Thrill Jockey set." We enjoyed their single Vanderbilt Cup last year on the Mixtape and this track will be their second single for the Battle label on March 11th with a hometown launch gig at the Louisiana on Thursday March 14th.

YOUNG ASTRONAUT - Hey Little Ghost [start 31:30]

Young Astronaut originated in the suburbs of the New Forest as two members, brothers Chris and Pete Boakes, in 2007. For the next four years they remained a duo during which they worked to develop a "harmonious and considered" blend of music which laid the foundations for Young Astronaut. These musical explorations evolved into ten tracks that then formed the basis of an album which, with the addition of drummer Niko Battistini, they then recorded in a single month's work in the studio. The resulting full length debut Fawn is now available as a free download in exchange for your email address via their website. They play 229 in London on Saturday, March 16th.

HOMEWORK - The Edge Of Control Was Black [start 36:15]

With two successful EPs under their belt, Scottish synthmeisters 主播大秀work recently听 announced the forthcoming release of their debut album. 13 Towers was recorded over a handful of weekends in a former lighthouse and will be released on March 25 via 主播大秀 From 主播大秀 Records.听 Hailing from the exotic Scottish outposts of Inverness, Mull and Dumfries their various members gravitated towards Edinburgh, where the band was formed in 2009 with a lineup consisting of O. Kass (vocals, synths), R. Baird (vocals, guitar, synths), R. Kass (drums) and A. Dennis (bass). They've been supported at radio so far by Lauren Laverne, Vic Galloway and Ally McCrae as well as myself, and a series of live dates throughout the UK in April and May will be announced shortly.

TESSERA SKIES - Milieu [start 41:06]

Newcastle three-piece Tessera Skies consists of Mark Broughton, Matt Hardy and Ben Helm and is, they tell us, "the eventual result of four years intermittent writing and recording between university studies". Coming from collective backgrounds in speech, sound, science, classical and jazz, they share their "love of pop, ambience and the orchestral". The name was inspired by the meaning and interpretation, both artistically and scientifically, of the sky. Also, they cheerfully admit, "it sounded quite nice". Their 2012 single Soliloquy Of An Astronaut (featured on the mixtape last year) was overseen by local production legend Mick Ross, who also had a hand in the mixing of Milieu. ROBB MURPHY - When Silence Comes [start 44:40]

Robb Murphy discovered his passion for composition while studying Music Technology at Queens University in his hometown of Belfast - and can frequently be found working as a Sound Engineer at local gigs, recording bands and also as a DJ. When Silence Comes was first recommended to us by Tim at Mill Valley Studios (also in Belfast) and comes from Robb's debut album Take A Stand which was released last April, and a recent live show with his eight piece live band garnered glowing praise from Ireland's prestigious Hot Press magazine, who described his album as "a must for fans of acoustic pop ballads."

THE SCHOLARS - Love The Thunder [start 48:39]

Since we first heard from Banbury's The Scholars in 2008, they've won 主播大秀 Oxford's Battle of the Bands, been featured in the independent film Turbulence, played countless gigs and festivals and slimmed down to a three piece lineup.听 Now consisting of Adrian Banks. Christian Gillett and Leigh Taylor they released "Love The Thunder" via https://thescholars.bandcamp.com where you can also find their back catalogue - including the stunning reworking of their 主播大秀 Introducing classic "This Heart's Built To Break". No gigs currently in the date sheet, but subscribe to them on Facebook to get notified as soon as more come in.

DEMAIN - Broad Strokes [start 51:53]

Dan de Maine AKA Demain is an electronic music producer and occasional student based in Southampton. His style is somewhat eclectic, reflecting his varied music taste and influences. Recently he has been collaborating with local guitarist and vocalist Alex Wolfe. 2013 is going to be an exciting year with an album coming out on Fent Plates and an EP being released on Sakoon records, as well as Demain getting his live act together

GEM DOS - Cuffs [start 54:55]

"I'm originally from south east London (though I'm half Irish) and grew up listening to Drum and Bass and Electronica" says the artist known as GEM DOS. "I've been living in Dublin for 5 years and have done music courses at The Sound Training Centre and The Academy of Sound. I鈥檓 always up for remixes, colabs and chatting so if you want you can get me via my Soundcloud page. I have no idea what you would call my music other than electronic. Some of it is just to the left - maybe you can have a listen for me and let me know what you would call it."

MOTHBOXER - Turn It Around [00:32]

Working mainly out of the studio, Mothboxers Dave Ody, Phil Davies and Robbie Burley have been together since 2009. In that time, they鈥檝e released three albums: a 2012 self-titled debut, FREQUENCY in 2011 and THREE at the tail-end of last year. A new EP is promised in coming months, as are a couple of forays onto the live music scene. Keep an eye on their website for details.

CAMP STAG - Sirens [03:29]

Camp Stag hail from Stoke-on-Trent, and are Rich Dooley (drums), Ade Harrison (keyboards), Dan Nixon (vocals/guitar) and Chris Wilson (bass). Formed in early 2011, they have already shared a stage with the likes of Ultrasound and The 1975. They released this single for free, but also have an EP available digitally. An album will follow shortly, and they also perform live on a regular basis.

BON ARROW - Let's Get Back To Where We Started [06:17]

Bon Arrow is the solo project of Kirsten Taylor. Having moved back to Ulverston in the Lake District following a spell in London, she learnt how to record herself on a laptop and started making tracks with whatever instruments came to hand, including battered guitars and an old Yamaha keyboard. We hope you鈥檒l agree the results are haunting.

THE SHALLOWS - Get Gone [10:30]

Based in London, The Shallows are Tom Skelton, Russ Cragg, Al Hewitt and Joe White. 鈥楪et Gone鈥� is taken from their EP, ABOUT TIME VOL 1, which they鈥檒l next be showcasing live at the O2 Academy in Islington on February 5th, followed by the Finsbury on March 1st

STE McCABE - Accessorise [13:44]

Ste McCabe describes himself a queer-feminist electro-punk one-man-band, and the only thing missing from his description is his wickedly acerbic sense of humour. Ste released his 3rd album BAD KITTY on Cherryade Records in late 2012, and has been touring across the UK and Europe for around 7 years. Next on the agenda are gigs in Switzerland, Iceland and Scandinavia. His next UK outing is at TAP in Southend on March 16th.

DENNIS - Ella [17:35]

Dennis are an 8-piece roots, folk & brass band from the former pit town of Hetton-Le-Hole. Among their members are veterans of European and O2 Academy tours, and National Brass Band competitions. 鈥楨lla鈥� is one of four tracks on the COLLIERY WELFARE EP, which is available digitally.

THE BLOOD CHOIR - No Windows To The Old World [21:27]

Hailing from the West Country, The Blood Choir are Robin Maddicott, Joe Mountain, Rod Brakes and Sam Selby - and no strangers to 6 Music Listeners. Their superb debut album NO WINDOWS TO THE OLD WORLD was released last June on IRL/Top Cat Music. To see what them in their full live majesty, head to The Fleece in Bristol on March 4th, where they鈥檒l be playing with an outfit called The Magic Band.

ASSASSINS OF SOUND - Butterfly [25:29]

Another band from way out west, Assassins of Sound have just released an album called WALTZ SONG, which was two years in the making. During that time, they鈥檝e gone from being five to three and now twenty! The music is written by Lydia Duncan, Alex Duncan and Steve Threlkeld, who are currently pondering how to shape their material into a live set. They also like to experiment with strange instruments 鈥� the latest of which was constructed from an office desk, rubbish bin and salvaged guitar neck. They wish to offer thanks to their industrious friend Matt White for that.

CRYSTAL SEAGULLS - Ups and Downs [29:20]

Crystal Seagulls are a unsigned four-piece comprising Jim, John, Elz and Ben. After just a year on the circuit, they鈥檝e released a single, headlined a stage at BrisFest, and been played on over 30 different radio stations around the globe. Based in London, their next gig is at The Comedy Pub in Leicester Square on February 15th, though they鈥檝e ventured far-and-wide in recent months. Wisely, they regularly update their Facebook page and Twitter feed, should you want to keep up-to-speed with their movements.

BOMB FACTORY - Gulliver [32:42]

Post-punk noise merchants Bomb Factory will self-release their new EP, 鈥楪ulliver鈥� on Febuary 17th. Recorded in听 their hometown of Cambridge last August (then mastered in Norwich), they describe it as attack on the brutal tedium of modernity. Fronted by shouter-in-chief Ranting Jack, the five-strong band will be playing at the Dublin Castle in Camden on March 8th.

PARIIS OPERA HOUSE - Finnish Line [34:59]

Described in Gigwise as the "glorious lovechild of Klaxons and Justice", Pariis Opera House are a production duo based in London. Since launching in November 2011, they have done remixes for the likes of Island and Infectious Records, as well as clinching sync deals with Channel 4 and E4. With these came an on-screen appearance on Hollyoaks. They are currently working on an EP and regularly release 'demixes' - where they take popular songs and destroy them for fun. Definitely an outfit to keep track of in 2013.

FLYNN'S ARCADE - Dead Mens Money [38:45]

Eat your heart out Seattle, Bognor Regis is where you'll find Grunge's latest and most authentic flowering.听 I loved this on first hearing - the sound of three people on the verge of a nervous breakdown, a trio at the end of their collective tether. A track that sounds as if they had to make this music or they would explode. Former schoolfriends Andy Greenway (Vocals/Guitar), Mike Pierce (Bass/Backing Vocals) and Charles Pierce (Drums/Backing Vocals) have named their band in reference to one of the locations in the movie Tron. You can see more of their work via their YouTube channel, and they hope to start playing around their home area soon. Come on promoters - give these guys a break!

STATEMENT HAIRCUT - Borsig [41:34]

Easily the best-named new band we've encountered this year, Statement Haircut divide their time between Liverpool and Berlin. Their coming together was a serendipitous one. Independently replying to a flat-share advert, Darren Reynolds and Mikey Stevenson discovered a common interest in songwriting, guitars, synthesizers and home recording. They began performing live in 2009, and keep their facebook page updated regularly with news of future gigs.

FIONA SOE PAING - Daymoon Sun [46:18]

Taken from Fiona鈥檚 TOWER OF BABEL EP, the lyrics of 鈥楧aymoon Sun鈥� may seem a little incomprehensible. That鈥檚 because they鈥檙e in Burmese! Fiona assures us they鈥檙e clean, however 鈥� and we鈥檒l have to take her word for it! Here next shows are is at Glasgow鈥檚 LadyFest in March, followed by a theatre collaboration at the Tron on May 11th. Her new single "Heartbeat" is due for release this Spring.

SOFTWHERE - Who Knows [50:10]

Tynesiders Jonny and Sarah are Softwhere, who do their best work in the warmth of a studio. This track is taken from their latest album A FEW WEIRD LITTLE SONGS, which saw them working with a number of local luminaries - including harmonica genius Lyndon Anderson and folk songstress Meghann Clancy. Their previous work is all neatly archived on their website.

SPC ECO - PUSH (Find The Noise) [54:10]

Pronounced Space Echo, SPC ECO are Rose Berlin and Dean Garcia. Rose is currently studying for a BA in sculpture, while Dean (previously of seminal 90鈥瞫 band Curve) is a multi-instrumentalist and maverick record producer. Rose is also Dean鈥檚 daughter, and they have been writing and recording songs from as soon as she was able to make a sound.
