Gis a job...

Victoria Derbyshire | 12:13 PM, Tuesday, 30 October 2007

Mark from Harrow is so desperate to work that he phoned the show today and effectively asked 2 million listeners if they had a job for him.

Listen to the interview here (5m 57s)

He did a brilliant job interview over the radio - and you'll be glad to hear that a number of listeners texted in offering Mark some work - we passed all the relevant contact details onto him. Will let you know how he gets on.

It came after an interview we did with . His party wants to set limits on the number of immigrant workers coming into the UK, after they've asked the CBI how many foreign workers we need.

Listen to Mr Grayling here and tell me what you think (8m 40s)

Regarding your message boards.Due you completely ignore them as there are many good points regarding immigration and yet almost every call on the show appears to be in favour of immigration, again.

I don't want to talk about immigration though. What I want to know is if your staff deliberately cherry pick all calls to suit the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's left wing agenda. Surely an organisation such as the Ö÷²¥´óÐã should try to be impartial and yet time and time again the calls are in stark contrast to the message boards and real life too for that matter.

Don't worry Victoria. There aren't any immigrants who can do your job for minimum wage yet so its quite safe for now.So carry on calling working class people lazy for not wanting to work 12 hours shift for £6 an hour as you carry on 'talking abit' for 3 hours a day.

    Hi Paul

I can't tell from your message if you listened to the programme this morniing (thurs) about immigration and the pressures on schools/hospitals etc. If you missed it you can download the 9 - 10 hour as a podcast....but anyway, you would have heard a number of listeners on air who were disillusioned with immigration, including some immigrants as it happens.

I can absolutely assure you that our programme team doesn't have a left-wing or right-wing agenda. We just do the news, sport and talking points of the day, and hope that listeners will want to talk about those things too. Some of us have working class backgrounds. some middle class backgrounds, some went to university, some started work straight from school. Some worked on market stalls, one Welsh guy's mum still does, some come from farming stock, some from urban sprawls, some are from irish immigrant families, most aren't etc etc. What I'm saying is we're as mixed (and mixed up?!) as the rest of you..I really do urge you not to make assumptions about us without knowing us. I hope Paul you'll take all this in the spirit in which it is meant.

Well said Victoria! There seems to be an awful lot of posts on these messageboard/blogs which are nothing to do with the original subject, and more about commenting on commenting!

Anyway. I just wanted to say well done to Mark from Harrow. He obviously has some gumtion, and deserves to get a brilliant job via your programme. Good luck to you Mark.

(At the risk of being hypocritical, re: going off-subject, just to say keep up the good work Victoria. I think your show is one of the best on the radio. Very enjoyable. And balanced!!)
