We brought you the sad news this morning that Sir Bobby Robson had died following a long battle with cancer. You've been paying your tributes to him this morning. Here are some of the texts you've sent us:

"Bobby Robson signed me at fulham as a 15-year-old in 1968. He came to see my parents and just stayed for hours. I did not make the grade but he always made sure I was ok even after he left. A true gent who will be missed. Dave B"

"I have been an Ipswich Town fan all my life. I was a child during his time there and I met him once when I was 10. I am genuinely moved to tears at this loss, he was my hero. Mark in Beccles, Suffolk. "

"RIP Bobby, a true football legend and a gentleman. He will be greatly missed. Graeme Wallace, Sunderland."

"My dad my brother and I drove a 500-mile round trip to be there at his match last Sunday and I now feel very honoured to have been there. He was the perfect ambassador for world football! Simon in Tewkesbury."

"In 1986 I was doing commentaries for hospital radio in Plymouth. Bobby Robson was at an Argyle game and I asked him for an interview thinking he would be too busy. Of course he agreed and was just brilliant, talking for ages and as if he was on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. A true gent. Yes we can call him a legend. John in Harrogate."

"Victoria, I am so upset at the news of Sir Bobby Robson. As grown man I have tears in my eyes. I'm an Ipswich fan and Bobby will always be remembered with such fondness at Portman Road. What Bobby did for football was amazing; such a genuine man, so much dignity. I really wish there was more people in the world like Sir Bobby. Ed in Kent"

"Me and a group of 12 ladies were at a Tynemouth hotel three years ago having lunch when Bobby and two guests arrived. He came over, chatted, asked us how the food was and was so lovely. Then when meal was over he posed for photos etc. Such a handsome man and what a gentleman. It's so sad. Mo in Gateshead x"

"Sad sad news of Sir Bobby. I met him once at a sportsmans dinner. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. A big big loss. Steve"
