Myspace or Marubbi's | Facebook or Sidoli's?

There seems to be a lot of love for the good old caff. Whereas some so-called greasy spoons really are just that, others seem able to stand apart from that image.

Every town I've worked in seems to have had one of those traditional tea shops or ice cream parlours. In Wrexham there is Marubbi's and even on a mountainside in the middle of nowhere, the Ponderosa, Horseshoe Pass, has stood the test of time - reinventing itself over recent years. [Mind you some places are too remote - such as the caff on top of Dinas Brân.]

Anyway, photographer is the latest to be taken by such places.

Web's buzzing about Wrexham

Nick - Web Team Nick - Web Team | 14:12 UK time, Monday, 21 April 2008

What a difference a game makes. First it was all but over and Wrexham FC were resigned to start next season in non league football.

And then, joy of joys, against Notts County and now there is some hope the team maybe, possibly, hopefully could do enough to save themselves and stay in the League.

Here's a quick trawl of the web and stories and blogs about Wrexham which has been keeping my news reader busy:

Leaving the car at home

Nick - Web Team Nick - Web Team | 11:09 UK time, Monday, 14 April 2008

Further to the post Thinking of giving up the car?, I see the bike-route sharing website shows other local people are doing the commute to work by bicycle with submitted routes such as the [this one is between Cefn y Bedd and Wrexham Technology Park].

Meanwhile, I see today that petrol at Asda Wrexham is £1.04 a litre and at nearby Tesco it's £1.06. Another reason to leave the car at home maybe?

What happens to Wrexham town if we lose our League football team?

Thinking of giving up the car?

Post categories: ,Ìý,Ìý

Nick - Web Team Nick - Web Team | 14:12 UK time, Friday, 11 April 2008

Fed-up of high petrol bills [£20 weekly commute] and the 12 mile [19km] drive to work [25 mins], I've decided to find some alternate means of getting from home [Mold] to work [Wrexham] - be it bus, train or pushbike.

Now I know my fuel costs aren't as bad as some have to pay and neither is my journey time that long, but what with talk of reducing our and doing my bit to ease congestion in Wrexham town centre, I thought I'd give it a go for a few days.

I'm not ready to start this challenge just yet as I want to be able to provide you with more of a feel for the experience []. And I'd also be glad of your feedback.

Electricity consumers in North Wales pay on average 4% more while those in South Wales pay on average 10% more for their electricity compared to the English average, according to research by fuel watchdog .

says the issue will be discussed by the Welsh Assembly sustainability committee tomorrow as it tries to tackle the problem of fuel poverty in Wales.

Personally, my family's household heating bill continues to rise making warmth - and, therefore, wellbeing - a luxury - not a necessity.

Farm shops and cooking for a celebrity chef

Post categories: ,Ìý

Nick - Web Team Nick - Web Team | 09:25 UK time, Tuesday, 8 April 2008

is running a cookery competition and the prize is to prepare their winning recipe on stage with a celebrity chef at the 2008 Festival.

It's good to see that entrants have to submit a recipe which includes two items locally-grown or produced. I've been looking around recently for local producers to source my family's food but I can't find a good guide. I know of a couple of farm shops but that's it. Is there such a guide or website?
