Debate: Are US ports safe in foreign hands?

Today I'm working on the ongoing row over the deal that would see a.

Should the deal be allowed to go through? Will security at US ports be safeguarded or compromised under foreign control? What do you think?

The US House of Representatives' House Appropriations Committee has blocked the deal which would give Dubai Ports World running the US ports from New York to New Orleans. The Ports will still be manned by Americans and still subject to US security inspections & regulations.

George W Bush has publicly supported the deal and has spoken of the UAE's help in the war on terror. He is now headed for conflict with his own Republican party in Congress, eager not to be seen as soft on security.

Should the deal be allowed to go through? Will security at US ports be safeguarded or compromised under foreign control?

So far today I have spoken to Emirates who feel the objection will severely sour future Arab-American business deals.
