200 texts and counting

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 20:09 UK time, Tuesday, 6 June 2006

Hi. This isn't actually Ros despite what the screen says. It's Vera. I normally present Fast Track, the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's African sport show, but for the next month or so I have come down to World Have Your Say to work on World Cup Have Your Say (which launches on Friday at 0800 GMT I should say). It's been quite a first day as before I knew it I'd be asked to keep an eye on all the texts, emails and blog posts coming in during today's WHYS. And you kept me busy -we had over 250 messages.... many of them about the recent developments in .

Now Ros gave me plenty of time, but we were never going to get all of your comments on air, so I thought I'd post some more of them here on the blog. Many thanks for all of them, and I'll speak to you soon on World Cup Have Your Say.

Jalloh in Freetown, Sierra Leone says 'It's great that the people of Mogadishu are free of anarchy. And I can compare it to the situation in my own country when the rebel RUF forces were driven out of the capital Freetown".

From: K: I'm worried about the future of Somalia, the Islamic court might be an other Taliban in the making.

Edisue in Nigeria: These people are no Muslims but bloodthirsty maniacs.

From Mohamed Ahmed Mansour of Monrovia. It's time for the AU and UN to make lasting peace in Somalia.

M.N.Daud, Kenya - The victory of Islamist in Mogadishu heralds a new dawn in Somalia. The elusive peace is finally here

Hassan, Kampala in Uganda - The West always think that when Islam is in control it means terrorist are being haboured. Why can't the West be fair?

Kenneth Bungu Dilla. Arua, Uganda - The Islamists arrival in government in Somalia is a sign of more chaos because of the American factor!

Ketochi, Monrovia
I am very worried about this development in Somalia. Somalia must not become a terrorist breeding ground for Islamic fundamentalists.

Uba Yaro Mohammed Gashua, Yobe in Nigeria - Islamic court fighters in Somalia have done a good thing. By capturing the Somalian capital, this gives hope to unite the country politically. I think the country will be stable.

Peter, Uganda - Most Islamic countries persecute other faiths. What hope is there from this development?

M Jamaa Nairobi - Let us give a chance to the Somali people to decide their future and America should avoid interrupting them.

Pride Gayus, Nigeria - The control of the Islamists over Mogadishu is a necessary inconvenience. Someone in control is always better than nobody in control.

Brian, Naivasha, Kenya - This is just the calm before the storm,. Consensus from the other disgruntled warlords must be sought to ensure lasting peace!

Caleb in Jos, Nigeria - The world must wake up and prevent Somalia slipping over to terrorists.

Sunday Ameh, Benue State Nigeria - I think the warlords should come together with the government for peace to reign in Somalia.

and last but not least an anonymous texter says "I am sure if given time the Islamic court will bring peace and harmony without tribalisim and the international community should support the move.

...and there are many more which I may try to put up tomorrow. Thanks for such a passionate response. Speak to you later. Vera.
