Media coverage and in the Middle East

Rabiya Parekh | 17:00 UK time, Monday, 12 June 2006

Everyone who saw the pictures of the girl crying beside her dead father on a last Friday was shocked.

An Israeli strike, whether mistaken or not, had destroyed a family in a setting that all of us would recognise - going down to the beach .

Today we look at the media coverage in the Middle East and pose the question "are the Palestinians winning the media war?".

Media coverage is very important and hotly contested, what one side reports the other side contests, and both Palestinian and Israeli governments are involved in 'managing' the media. Who does it better?

The editor in chief of Al Jazeera television, Ahmed al-Sheikh is joining us, as is the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen, and Dr Joseph Draznin who studies media coverage of terrorism in Israel. Join the debate.
