Al Jazeerah, gay marriage and creationism

Rabiya Parekh | 12:29 UK time, Wednesday, 15 November 2006

Hi. Wednesday morning and great to have Mark and David back in the office, so the team is almost back at full strength!

Al Jazeerah English finally lauches
We all sat around eagerly anticipating the launch of Al Jazeerah English this morning, and having a brief look around the blogosphere, we weren't the only ones. Not suprisingly, it's something you want to talk about today.

Al Jazeerah

And they opened with the line, "It's November the 15th, day one of a new era in TV news.." finally launched their English News Channel 1200 GMT.

Impressive graphics and a swanky new studio in Doha, Qatar beamed across our TV screen and doutless thousands around the world. The channel has recruited ex Ö÷²¥´óÐã, CNN and Sky news journalists to bring to the English speaking world what the Arab speaking world has had access to for 10 years.

Although lacking major US distribution, the new channel has the potential to reach 80 million homes worldwide. Al-Jazeera's Arabic news channel is well known for angering leaders in the West and the Arab world, where it has been banned from operating in 18 countries at various times. Four Arab nations still bar its reporters.

But is it a new dawn? Will you be watching it? We'd like your reviews and what potential you think it has in changing the international news market?

Gay Marriage

Something we asked for your thoughts on yesterday's show was the decision by to pass a bill to legalise same-sex marriage.

This is what you had to say..

How could south Africa be so blind & stoop so low to legalise homosexual marriage..Its the beginning of doom, the Parliament should please have a rethink b4 its 2 late.
Beno, Nigeria.
I weep 4 the african continent. What a shame South Africa has become. As Desmond Tutu said the country is going 2 the dogs. I'm sure Mandela didnt fight for this kind of insanity.
Rose, Kampala.

We'll be speaking a gay couple in South Africa who'll be using the ruling to get married, you can put your questions to them.

Creationism

We've been in touch with the head of a new creationist museum in America which will open to the public next summer.

The museum - the world's first - is dedicated to the idea that the creation of the world, as told in Genesis, is factually correct.

Ken Ham is the founder and President of , the company who have built the $25 million museum, and he'll be taking your questions tonight.

There has certainly been an in the states as to how much creationism should be taught in schools. Last year, a High school in Dover, Pennsylvania, became the first in the country to discuss an alternative to Darwin's theory of evolution in class, called Intelligent Design.

From rural Pennsylvania to Bible-belt Kentucky America seems to be struggling over how much religion to admit into public life.
