Stun-gunned in the library

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 14:14 UK time, Friday, 17 November 2006

We've did a U-turn after today's meeting. Dan from Detroit had joined us and his main pitch was about a video on YouTube which shows a student at UCLA in California being struck several times with a . If you haven't seen it, you can , but be warned it's not comfortable viewing. We're weren't going to run the story but having watched the video and read more online, we realise we have to...

STUDENT TASERED AT UCLA

We were unsure about doing the story. First because the facts seemed unclear, and also because we felt it might turn into a general debate about policing in America with this one video being used as evidence to claim far broader trends. To put it simply we were wrong and Dan was right. This has clearly become a huge talking point and that alone is reason to do it. But also reading lots of blogs it's prompted fierce debate about the kind of policing that is acceptable in America.

Give us your reaction top the video and if you want to talk about it on the show, include your phone number.

JUST HOW RESPONSIBLE ARE DOCTORS?
We all like Anna's suggestion of looking at the story of a German doctor who's been for a baby which was conceived because of a failed contraceptive operation. Yes you read that right. And it's not cheap either at a cool 750 dollars a month.

Should doctors have to take this kind of responsibility? Or will judgements like this make doctors too cautious to perform a lot of operations? I'm guessing that in litigious countries like America this is something that's covered with insurance, so does that solve the problem.

If you're a doctor how do you feel reading this story? And if you're the doctor in question - get in touch! We're trying as hard as we can to speak to you.

I REALLY LOVE YOU - BUT I JUST HAVE TO RUN A CHECK OR TWO

Not very romantic this one. The British government is considering allowing single mothers to The idea is that women can rest easy that the man their bringing into their family is not a sex offender. Of course some might say that if you have doubts about whether your new man is interested in children then, whatever the truth, he might not be 'the one'.

We disagreed in the office about the rights and wrongs of this which is always a good sign that you probably will as well. I think people always do a little research on new partners so this isn't so different, but you might not agree. I mean Google has made finding about people a lot easier, though it's true every last secret isn't found out by its searches.

Have you checked up on a partner? Not just about sex offences, but about anything? And if you did, how did you check up them? I'm curious about this one, so do share your views and experiences.

VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS - A PROGRAMME FOR NEXT WEEK

Marcy is a teacher in Detroit and came along to our show from WDET last week. She approached me about doing a show and this is the email she's just sent with details of her idea. It relates to violence in schools - see what you think. We're going to do this on Tuesday and she's coming on tonight's show to explain more about how she'd like the show to go.

Right, as the rest of the office bar Joe has cleared off for lunch I guess I'd better do the same.

Speak to you later.
