Helen in Cardiff

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 14:06 UK time, Tuesday, 2 January 2007

I’m from a small town called Wrexham in North Wales but I’m studying in Cardiff this year. I lived in Mexico for 10 months when I was doing my undergraduate degree. In my spare time I like catching up with friends, travelling and running (I’ve been known to do the odd half marathon!)

I found out about WHYS when its editor Mark told me about it and I looked it up on the internet and then tuned in! I love how it opens up my Western mind to other opinions, ideas and beliefs. I appreciate the uniqueness of it; where else can you hear people from all over the world having a passionate discussion live on the radio? I l also ike the interactivity it allows and how the team value their listeners’ participation and opinions.

There's one thing I don't like though.…it tends to be on at dinner time, which means by the time I listen again the impact isn’t the same!

I’m fascinated by Central and Latin America but unfortunately we don’t hear much about that part of the world here in the UK. I’m interested by global stories that don’t get air time on national radio here. I’m a keen sports fan, so anything to do with sport grabs my attention. And language learning, especially in the UK – don’t get me started on that !
