Tuesday's talking points?
You'll notice the question mark at the end there, that's because as always, we want you to tell us what we should discuss on today's programme. There's a lot going on in the news today, but an obvious talking point hasn't leapt off the page, well computer screen, at me yet.....
Steve in Utah e-mailed to alert us to a reality tv show that has aired in the States, following a group of young Arabs on a road trip across America. descibes it as "Al Jazeera meets MTV", and asks if a reality tv show can improve the image of the United States abroad. Have you seen it? Tell us more.....
Thank you very much as always for your suggestion Steve, I've had a bit more time to look in to it and it gets even more interesting. The programme is made by production company Layalina, which has a very interesting group of people on the advisory panel, including former President Bush. Is this a propaganda tool or a genuine attempt to improve understanding between two cultures? It has only aired in the Middle East so far but I would love to hear what Americans and viewers in the Arab world make of it.
How does body image vary around the world?
Radio 1, a British radio station with a young audience has Half the women interviewed said they would have surgery to improve their looks, and 20 per cent of males admit to drinking protein shakes in an attempt to bulk up.
It struck me that people in different parts of the world might come under very different pressures. Skinny seems to be desirable in the west, is it the same where you live?
Have you made money from the internet?
Catherine Sanderson, or La Petite Anglaise, as she is known in the blogging community, . The blog got her sacked from her job with an accountancy firm in Paris, but she is having the last laugh now it has been turned into a manuscript in a six figure deal. , as she is known on her blog, has also signed a deal to turn her musings into a book after finding online audiences in the UK and America. Do you write an online blog? What are your reasons for keeping one? Do many people read it? Do you care?
Are we being ripped of by drug companies?
The Office of Fair Trading in the UK found , and that some drugs were found to be up to ten times more expensive than substitute treatments despite very similar benefits to patients. I'm sure WHYS have looked into the global impact of multi-national drug companies in the past, but it's certainly an interesting issue to open up to the rest of the world. How much does this apparent cost?
Violence in Somalia
There have been reports of - the heaviest since the government took Mogadishu from an Islamist group late last year, killing ten people. We have many contributors to the show in the region, perhaps they could give us an idea of what is happening...?
