Burma, Madeleine and New Feminism
As the situation in Burma , the world continues to watch. And considering this is a country in which the authorities exert total control, the world has had a pretty good view. Protests have been reported from Burmese citizens on tv and radio stations (including World Have Your Say), videos have even appeared on and . One domestic phone-in radio show has even called it the "first You Tube revolution".
A show like World Have Your Say relies on speaking to experts in times like this. Not Ö÷²¥´óÐã correspondents - but real people who are living the news, who we believe are the most qualified to talk about situations in their country. But even we have been surprised about the information we have had access to from Burma. Is this something that has struck you? sheds some light on the issue.
Madeleine in Morocco?
Taken by a Spanish tourist in Morocco three weeks ago, it shows a young blonde child strapped to the back of a woman, with other family members surrounding her. It certainly could be the missing four year old, but zooming in only blurs the picture and doesn't prove it is. It's certainly got people talking though, what is your reaction? Could it be Madeleine? WHYS favourite Abdelilah is in Morocco - I'm looking forward to him telling us his thoughts from there.
It's incredible how quickly the McCann's campaign has turned around since they were declared formal suspects in the investigation of their missing daughter. Then it seemed like the search for a missing child had turned into a murder enquiry. Now the hunt seems firmly back on. Plenty to talk about I feel - or have you already heard too much about the case?
New Feminism
This is something Mark tells me him and Ros have been discussing in the office recently. Nothing to do with the behaviour of me and Fiona I'm assured, but prompted by a couple of interesting articles, , that argues the actions of today's booze drinking, skimpily dressed young girls, kills off the good work achieved by feminists over the years. Or does it? Weren't feminists fighting for the right of women to behave how they want to? Isn't being able to get your kit off, drink and sleep around, without raising an eyebrow,feminism realised?
I've taken a quick look on the internet, Mark and Ros are (of course) spot on , there's a lot of interesting issues surrounding this, this article asks if stripper poles , focuses on the differences between "new" and "old" feminism.
