What's it like to live in Kliptown, Soweto?

Nuala McGovern Nuala McGovern | 10:45 UK time, Thursday, 24 June 2010

family.jpgMeet Mamiell, Chantal, Sophia and Vanessa. Today, they want to chat with you about how and where they live in Kliptown, Soweto. They're ready to answer your questions on any aspect of their lives. Mamiell is John and Martha's daughter and Ros will be broadcasting from their home.

That home, is in what's called an informal settlement, they call it a 'shack', you can see it here with today's set-up for the show in their house.

Here it's normal for a family of four or five to live in just one room. Kliptown is just a few kilometers from Soccer City, but it's a different world.

world.jpgWe'll chat about the impact of the World Cup but also about their immediate concerns:
finding a safe home, (sketchy wiring is constant fire risk), young men's refusal to wear condoms, the prevalance of HIV, and the orphans left because of it. And also simply, where to find the money for school books.

There's a lot of joy in South Africa about the World Cup, maybe you'd like to ask how they celebrated, who they are rooting for now?

Or would you like to know about their work, cooking, favourite music or pastime? They're waiting to hear from you!
