Terry Jones

Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, on 1 February, 1942, Terry Jones studied English at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, where he met collaborator Michael Palin.

There the duo established a writing partnership, contributing to 1967 sketch show Twice a Fortnight, at the suggestion of Graeme Garden. Becoming increasingly prolific, they moved on to The Complete and Utter History of Britain, Do Not Adjust Your Set, At Last the 1948 Show and The Frost Report.

However, Jones - and his cohorts - are still best remembered for Monty Python's Flying Circus, in which the Welshman became known primarily for his roles as middle-aged women.

Following the show's demise, he continued working with Palin, creating Ripping Yarns, and developing his career as a film director.

In recent times, Jones has become more familiar helming unorthodox historical documentaries, such as Terry Jones' Medieval Lives.

He's been married to Alison Telfer since 1970, and the couple have two children.
