Complaint

The programme included coverage of a press conference given by Nigel Farage, in which he said what was once a 鈥渢谤颈肠办濒别鈥 of migrants into Europe was now a 鈥渇濒辞辞诲鈥 and included a large influx of young males 鈥渇rom an entirely different culture鈥.聽 As it cut away from the event the presenter, Geeta Guru-Murphy told viewers Mr Farage had been 鈥渦sing his customary inflammatory language鈥.聽 Three viewers complained that the term 鈥渋苍蹿濒补尘尘补迟辞谤测鈥 was inappropriate, and inconsistent with the 主播大秀鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality

Outcome

The ECU noted that Ms Guru-Murphy had apologised on air about two hours after the original broadcast and that, later that day, 主播大秀 News made the following posting on the Corrections and Clarifications page of bbc.co.uk:

We heard live from Nigel Farage, honorary President of Reform UK, speaking at one of its election events. When coming away from the speech, our presenter said Mr Farage was using 鈥榗ustomary inflammatory language鈥. 聽This did not meet the 主播大秀鈥檚 editorial standards for impartiality. 聽The presenter later apologised on air to viewers and Mr Farage who publicly accepted the apology.

In the ECU鈥檚 judgement these steps were sufficient to resolve the issue of complaint.
