The 23 hour flight to Bali begins today! I am in sunny Wales (not) with Gwen Spurlock, another one of the crew coming to Bali along with Zak Lawton from Devon, Connor Maguire from Ireland, Tom Good from Newquay and Miles Lee Hargreaves from Bude.

It's a mixed bunch of guys this trip but I think it's going to be an epic trip with some sick waves and sunny weather...Hopefully.

I've been in Bali only 29 hours now but I have come to the decision that it is basically just epic. The waves are sick, the weather is hot, the people seem super nice and the scenery and culture is amazing.

We surfed two top class breaks today, both within an hour of the lush pad we're staying in. They're called Canggu (a punchy beachbreak 5 minutes down the road) and Uluwatu (a heavy reef break an hour鈥檚 drive away).

Tomorrow the swell is showing 11ft at 16 seconds which will mean the waves are pretty macking which will give us a bit of a challenge on the second day in of the Surf Solutions Bali Trip 2009.

Sometimes pushing your own boundaries and what you feel comfortable in is worth it and pays off. Sometimes it doesn't and you really wish you just hadn't bothered. Sometimes it seems like even though you get nailed and suffer the consequences you are happy with your performance and the results that follow.

This morning was solid, and with false thoughts of small waves predicted fresh in our minds, we were pretty surprised to turn up to Keramas to find solid double overhead sets coming through. Don't get me wrong, it looked insane, no wind and no one out, it looked great, apart from the reef sucking dry and this guy strolling up the beach with a giant crease in his board and his fins snapped out.

We'd come to Bali to improve though and surf new waves and push our boundaries, so by lunchtime we were all in giving it a go and actually really enjoying it. When we got home we looked at the photos with Gerrad and watched video analysis with Joel. We have each made our own couple of aims for this week of the trip. Tomorrow should be less gnarly and better performance orientated waves.

So it鈥檚 been a few days now. Everyone is getting used to the waves and the tropical weather. Surfing in Bikinis is definitely not a chore.

The swell is picking up again today after a couple of smaller days on some more performance waves which should give us a perfect opportunity to get on some bigger waves and challenge ourselves a bit more than we did on the first couple of days when we weren't that sure what to expect.

This afternoon we surfed the world famous break- Uluwatu. It was pretty much perfect- about 4ft and clean. Although it was busy and we didn't get the most waves ever. The waves we did get were great fun and it felt good to be able to say we surfed Ulu's!
